I'm probably the only one here who thinks this but I hate the ending of Let's Go Crazy by Prince. It stops the song dead cold and changes direction completely for no good reason other than some over-indulgent guitar noodling that not only clashes with the main part of the song, but IMHO also doesn't sound good on its' own.

I would have much preferred the song end around 3:12 with a simple fade-out.

There are of course plenty of examples of great guitar work on his song that enhance them, but this is just not one of them. :)

That big blues rave-up ending is like the cool-down at the end of a massive aerobic workout. You need it after that song.

I agree with the OP. I love Prince, but the ending of "Let's Go Crazy" is obnoxious IMHO.

You would've loved AM radio in the '80's, where the first note of the guitar would immediately cut off, and, it would be on to the next song!

Well except for it being AM radio, yeah probably. :)

It might be a little over the top but the song is Let's Go Crazy and it's Prince.
Let's go crazy, let's fade out... Nah.

    An oxymoron surely.

IMO one of the greatest guitar breaks of all time. Certainly during his heyday he never didn't anything similar on his records.

This song talks about purple bananas, so I'm not too worried out the seriousness of the ending.

I love the ending to "Crazy", it's Prince tipping his hat to the OG purple man, and himself as the baddest all-around pop musician on the planet.

Plus, it's the perfect crescendo to a rousing rave-up of a song.

I like it. There are a million better guitar parts in other songs, but it's still pretty cool.

I like the 99% of the song that isn't the ending of it. :)

One of my favourite song endings.

No problem with the ending - and I love the rumbling bass at the very end. Sounds like an earthquake.

Also: I think I like the album cut more than the extended version (which was on an earlier version of the album). The piano is good, but it feels like it's extra stuff. The edit they made to shorten it for the eventual official album is nothing short of perfect.

Also also: I would love to know/hear how this song developed. But there is no demo or early version out there, as far as I know.

And it makes a perfect lead-in to the sunny Take Me With U on the album itself.

Yes, one of my fave song endings. That, ladies and gents, is rock and roll.

    It really is.

No complaints here, every note is Prince perfection.

Prince in 1984 couldn't make a bad musical choice if you paid him to.

Hearing the Purple Rain album for the first time is in the top ten musical experiences of my life......i vividly remember it.

I assume you're the same person who fades out "Hey Jude" around 3:15 and cuts off "Stairway To Heaven" before the guitar solo.

I don’t like it, either, except for the ending. Otherwise I think it’s a ‘meh’ tune. So I disagree with the OP.
