Did they ever get around to releasing that CD so you could play individual tracks, or is it still one long track with like 11 or 12 separate songs. I never had a chance to really get into the album because of the way it was formatted upon release.

New-er US issues have the tracks separated.
If you get a sealed copy you should be good.

I only have the one-track version.
I really love this album. My top 5 Prince, definitely.

I do believe there are some cd pressings that have the tracks split up, but I also think a cue splitter might be able to dictate track placements and timings and index points and split the tracks. I don't know since I don't own this album, but a cue generated might have the tracks split up if you have EAC and a cue splitter on your computer.

Seriously underrated Prince album. One of my favorites.

I think there was track indexing in the original European pressings, and I was told later pressings in general do too.

Funny how it was replaced The Black Album - of all the songs he could've saved for Lovesexy, he chose the worst one. Wish he ditched "When 2 R in Love" and replaced it with one of the gems from his vault.

Is that true? Man, that's great news for me--I've been looking for an old EU disc for years. Is there a particular thing to look for on the indexed CD?

It's one long album on Spotify.

I saw Prince perform this entire album back in the day. It was amazing.

Don't get too excited, the German CD I had back in 1988 only had one track. They even made a fuzz in the press: " Prince wants you to listen to the whole album from start to finish. Or nothing at all" Since I used it for long runs in the forrest it was perfect...

I think The Black Album is Prince's Basement Tapes - it's held by some in high regard (esp by the chosen few who heard it before the official release). But once it became officially released it proved to be pretty damn ordinary and sounds largely tossed off- made up on the spot - much like Dylan's Basement Tapes.

I disagree. I still love this album. When it finally got an official release I wondered if I'd have that feeling that you have, but I think it's still brilliant. One of my top 5 from Prince.

I loved the tour (dubbed "Livesexy") more than I loved the album. But it was still a good, solid album.

If you buy one brand new from Amazon you should be fine. There are some brand new from the Germany for a total of $10.

I had no idea about the 1 track version and I bought a used copy from Amazon and I got a tracked version by luck. It doesn't look like a promo or a new-er version so not sure what the heck I got.

Surely he'd get nine times the money if he split it up? I reckon he'd make at least .0045 cents every time the album was played if it was banded. :agree:

Try like .000045 cents by the way they pay! :)

The disc in the Original Albums Series box has the tracks split.

I believe the U.S. promo edition was also indexed for radio. Likewise, I just made my own version with separate tracks. Great album, and the capper to Prince's peak era.

Definitely, what's widely considered his greatest bootleg is from that tour - a "small club" performance that's an incredible show.

You can simply rip it as a single file and then manually edit the cue (you will need to change the name of file to whatever yours is and paste this over the original line that starts "file"--leave everything above it):

    FILE "Prince - Lovesexy.wav" WAVE
    TRACK 01 AUDIO
    TITLE "Eye No"
    INDEX 01 00:00:00
    TRACK 02 AUDIO
    TITLE "Alphabet St."
    INDEX 01 05:46:00
    TRACK 03 AUDIO
    TITLE "Glam Slam"
    INDEX 01 11:25:00
    TRACK 04 AUDIO
    TITLE "Anna Stesia"
    INDEX 01 16:31:00
    TRACK 05 AUDIO
    TITLE "Dance On"
    INDEX 01 21:28:00
    TRACK 06 AUDIO
    TITLE "Lovesexy"
    INDEX 01 25:13:42
    TRACK 07 AUDIO

    INDEX 01 31:01:17
