  1. I'm intrigued by some of the note choices in the bass. Interesting.

    It's available exclusively here...

It's just a picture disc but it can only, by the look of it, be bought in a bundle with a shirt, a jacket or a shirt and a jacket. Oof.

So great to hear this after all those years. Posters above mentioned it available for purchase at Tidal, but I'm not seeing that when logged in, does anyone have a direct link?

I know Prince wrote the Bangles' hit "Manic Monday". Did he ever perform it?

Great to hear this.... I still feel though, that the unexpected melodic twist Sinead put on the second "nothing compares to you" was a big part of what made her version work so well and you miss that in Prince's versions.

Sounds like Sinead's version was very much influenced by this. Was Prince involved with it, I wonder?

that song was for Apollonia 6 album. when he got smitten with Susannah Hoffs, he took it away from them and gave it to Bangles instead (can't blame him !!~).
i remember a bad sounding demo (with Apollonia on vox) floating around in the early 90's but not sure if it has been updated since.

only time he performed it to my knowledge (based on fading memory) was when he guested during SF Warfield Bangles show.

The sax solo is exactly the same as what ended up on The Family LP.

Crazy he didn't choose to add this song on Around The World. It's not a super strong album and this would have been one of the very best tracks. I could picture a more psychedelic vibe to fit the album.

Genius obviously, but would liked to have heard a soaring guitar solo instead of that cheesy sax. Also was anticipating more high vocal shrieks near the end (think of the song ending of "Free" off 1999). Still, it's great to finally hear...

  19. Yeah, I'm sure, but can't be 100% certain of course, that they pulled the multi-track like the story reads, and on it you have Prince's original keys and vocals, the synth that's buried in the mix, but in the forefront of The Family version, the Sax, Paul and Susannah's background vocals, and Paul's lead vocal, Prince's guitar, among other elements. So, basically all of the elements for The Family's track, should one want to remix that, plus several unique elements for an unreleased Prince mix, since, for the most part, Prince didn't wipe tracks.

As I wrote in another thread, there are assuredly tons of multi-tracks like this that has never been properly mixed, even when Prince was alive, making his vault a playground for mixing and mastering. Even those rough mixes by Prince for demo purposes probably had elements to the tracks that haven't been booted.

With Prince, it's not so much a period-mix that counts (although there are plenty of those); it's that now the multi-tracks are available to bring to the masses songs that should have had a proper mix back in the day, but he never mixed them for whatever reason.

I think she heard the Family version and covered it five years later on her second album.

As has been noted, this is the stem of the Family version so it's not surprising that they sound somewhat similar..

He also performed it on 18th august 1986 as a one-off on the Parade Hit -n- Run tour in the Netherlands, with Wendy on lead vocals.

I bit. They really overcompressed on that YouTube. Sounds like a different song. Which can happen sometimes.
