Can't imagine this will stay up for very long so be quick.

The version of Purple Rain that appears on the album was cut live.

Here it is in pictures before any over dubs or edits, including the third unreleased verse only ever performed here.

Thanks for drawing my attention to that, dunkrag: to be honest, it might have been a bit dull without the commentary, but with the commentary it's fascinating.

I just wish (some) record companies would pay equal attention to documentation when issuing this sort of material themselves!

    The sound is awful.

Well, it's not the record company so much as it is the artist. The artists wants their stuff presented in certain ways. But, with the way Prince feels about the internet now, he probably disapproves of this being on YouTube.

    Great! Thanks dunkrag.
Prince creating legendary music on his beat up Hohner Telecaster copy. Excellent performance.

Quite decent sound quality, actually - after the first 30 seconds. Magic! Thanks so much, dunkrag.

Wendy's guitar is sure out of tune though - yikes! :yikes:

Wow, that was awesome. This music has been part of my DNA for about 27 now, great to see the moment it was created. I actually got goosebumps when he started singing. Would be nice to have a version with the long intro.

    Thanks!

The second time I watched it I really noticed how much they slow the tempo down from the start to when Prince starts singing. No click track, that's for sure. :)

WOW, thanks so much for posting one of my fav tracks from one of the best albums of that decade.

Prince needs to bring back that magic of The Revolution.

Prince is so underrated as a guitarist. He does not get the recognition he deserves.

This is awesome!! Prince was wise to drop that extra verse. A true classic.

Wow, thanks for posting - had always been curious what it sounded like in the house when they did the live recording for the record. So much fun and video comments are well done.

So funny that Prince and Wendy are both playing cheap 'copy' guitars. Not a complaint, just odd.

stunning -- thanks for sharing. interesting perspective on a song i feel like i must have heard hundreds of times back in the day. what an amazing song and performance - so soulful. an icon guitar solo. i never knew that this show was also videotaped, and from the looks of it professionally.

The great thing about Prince is that he never stopped growing as an artist.

His guitar playing today blows away his playing from the Purple Rain era, I am surprised
a lot of you have never seen this footage ,it's been circulating since the early 90's.

    Thanks for posting this.

I'm one of those people who would love to have the whole song on CD or digital. Better yet, I'd love to have the recording of the concert, video and all.
