    Assuming that the "Dyn" is for dynamic, I'd pronounce it Dine-audio.

  2. Grant

    Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

    I'm sure it's Mack-uh-fee.

    I've always said Harmon Kar-don, emphasis on the first syllable.

    I've heard people say Tech-nicks. I've always said Tech-neeks.

    After working a couple of years in a stereo warehouse (many moons ago), we developed pet names for some of the gear. So just to throw a monkey wrench into this discussion, we used to call:
    Onkyo = Oink yo
    Sansui = San sewage
    Pioneer = P**sing ear
    Phase Linear = Flame Linear (for their habit of blowing up)

    I agree! Except, old Teac stuff is very good, the new stuff is terrible.

    No, no, Steve - it's EEE-gor! ;)

    Well they were wrong then weren't they, Froderick?

    P.S. Living in Lexington, Kentucky, the home of Thiel Loudspeaker Manufacturing, and having visited the plant, it's pronounced "teel".

    I've mispronounced Denon and Thiel before I was corrected, and also Bryston (which I wrongly associated with the word 'hysterics').

    'Rega' is the new one I learned from this thread.

    Yeah...except they're Danish, so that makes me wonder what the proper rponunciation is.

    Does anyone know how to pronounce the Linn products?

    I read the name at a stereo store and end up simply pointing to one and say "that one", thus avoiding trying to pronounce the name .... :eek:

    There was a topic months ago in the visual and arts section of how the Sony´s Wega TV should be pronounced.

    Interesting Tim. I would pronounce only 2 differently.

    I know the Dynamo Open Air Festival in The Netherlands is pronounced either "Din-am-oh" or "Deen-am-oh" (I'll have to get out my Fates Warning DVD to find out), so I wonder too if it might actually be other than "Dine-audio".

    C'mon...there's gotta be some Danes on this board.

    And Danes don't lie.

    The Danes don't lie, but are sleeping right now. :) My Danish is a bit rusty, but Dynaudio is pronounced Dewn-ow-dio (I think). Short ew sound, like in Newt. Do I make sense?

    Tandberg = Tand-Barry, BTW.

    I was told that it was REE-ga, because Roy Gandy derived it from the word "regal."
