I've tried to ask about this on the forum before and haven't got an answer. Is there a reason why the Pugwash albums are out of print? I've bought the Sugarbush reissues but it'd be nice to be able to buy the entire back catalog.

Assuming the band are all in agreement, you'd think reissues could be easily negotiated. The original discs certainly aren't getting any cheaper on the secondary market and it would make sense to give newer fans (and old ones who might have missed out the first time) the chance to buy these.

I'm sure it's not cost effective anymore for smaller bands to reissue stuff+ a royal pita getting someone to finance/handle the manufacturing etc..

Definitely. I wonder if they could release them as a box set or at least test the waters through crowdfunding.

I love telling who'll ever listen about my route to Pugwash. I lived in Dublin about 15 years ago, and the only local music I kind of listened to was Aslan, Paul Leary and Picturehouse (who I later found out were so connected to Pugwash). And some time later, I was always on a Neil Innes forum, where folk used to talk more about Pugwash than the great man himself. So I knew of Pugwash, but never followed it up.

Years later, I was idly listening to a radio interview about a band who combined their love of cricket and the Electric Light Orchestra - which I thought was quite bonkers, but there he was with Neil Hannon, Pugwash's Thomas Walsh. And the eureka moment came where I thought, "oh, it's him!!!!"

Life hasn't been the same since. Thank you, Big T. New album is highly anticipated.

I never leave. I'm like that annoying uncle at Christmas who smells of cabbage and loves beans and whiskey and sings risque songs for the grandkids!!

New 7inch vinyl single in May. Clear vinyl. Then UK and Scotland tour support for Nick Heyward.

Right on! What is the best way for one in the USA to obtain said new 7" single?

  8. I can't believe this album is a decade old now. Wow! This album comforted me greatly, after getting out of the service. "Here" always brings a lump in my throat. What a brilliant song, and brilliantly mastered. It is a rarity in this modern age for an album to sound so fine.

It will be great to hear the new one. :)

Hopefully you'll announce an all singing, all dancing box set of all Pugwash's masterpieces and then give us the chance to save up for it.......

What are the best Pugwash albums?

I only have "Jollity," "Eleven Modern Antiquities," and "Play This Intimately."

  13. This.

  14. The Olympus Sound is my favorite Pugwash disk. Unfortunately it's the most expensive one to acquire now.

A Rose In A Garden Of Weeds is excellent.

It gives us about three songs from each of their last five albums...very good compilation.

Which cd has more tracks from the elusive first two albums? "Giddy" or "Weeds?"

Isn't the correct answer " Earworm"?

  18. I think the best one is the most recent, which was essentially a Thomas Walsh solo album but with Jason Falkner doing come co-writes, producing and co-playing. It's fantastic and was one of my favorites of last year.

Every time I see this old thread popped back up to the top, I always think "Why is this band still broke up, even though I realize that Pugwash was basically one of those, Jeff Lynne (Thomas, in this case) man behind the curtain lead bands and why aren't they and "Jellyfish" back together, back when music was safe and sound in my home! Now it's just mediocre McCartney albums, Brian Wilson singing off key, ELO, without ELO and I'm supposed to be happy.
