Pugcast coming up today! Don't miss Pugwash live from LA - 4pm (Eastern)/ 1pm (Pacific) - "Live From High Fidelity Podcast" Anything can happen (and it will!). https://www.facebook.com/LiveFromHighFidelityPodcast
They were terrific yesterday. Did "Stuck in the Middle with You" (during the show--impromptu) and "Flowers in the Rain" (during soundcheck). If you haven't seen or heard them, you should check them out.
Love this Facebook post from Shaun McGee (bass/vocals) "So, you're there minding your own business, doing a set with the lads and you look out to see Brian Wilson's band watching you, watching them, watching you.... again! #HeadMelter "
I don't mean to be unpatriotic, but I find Pugwash underwhelming. It's sounds like an exercise in 60's/70's chord progressions & production techniques. Probably why so many people here like them.
I'm curious about the extent of your listening. Have you heard "A Rose in a Garden of Weeds?" It's difficult to imagine being unimpressed after hearing that incredible collection of songs but I guess stranger things have happened.
Well, to each their own, mate. Some folks have a fine appreciation for those very things. There's plenty of bands out there for everybody to enjoy and get something that makes them feel glorious out of. That's the beauty of music as an art form.
You can like whatever you like, of course, but I wonder why you felt it necessary to follow your testimonial with a not-so-veiled insult of this forum, the band, and those who do like the band?
I think your question is a fair one. Your original post was a classic thread crap. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=thread crapping If you haven't seen the forum rules, thread craps are a no-no. Personally, I didn't take offense to your post but I noticed you did not offer up examples of any actual Pugwash that you've heard. Just curious. Let's say you started a thread touting the greatness of Yeah Yeah Yeahs' latest album. Other Yeah Yeah Yeah fans are chiming in with their fondness. And here I come with my post...."I don't understand why people like this group so much. They sound like Blondie on meth." That's pretty much what you did here. First of all, it would never occur to me to pop into a thread that is predominately a love-fest only to be the lone dissenter. I would feel a wee bit like a Richard.
So that's what thread crapping is ..... If someone says a band I like is rubbish, that's fine. I wouldn't be offended. It's just an opinion. That's what forums are about.
Forums are about opinions. But, it usually comes from being asked yours. I'm always amazed why people feel the need to interject when it wasn't asked for. If you read the OP, you'd be hard pressed to find that invitation. If you're not a fan of an artist, why even visit the thread?
It would be worth going to one of the Pugwash concerts just to buy some of the CDs and vinyls for sale at their merch booth. I would love to see these guys do an extended tour of the U.S. and Canada, maybe with Del Amitri, Cotton Mather or World Party.
I picked up a copy of the comp. While the music is unquestionably above reproach, why did Gavin Lurssen and Reuben Cohen crank the mastering volume up to 11? Jeezus. This is one LOUD disc. What a shame.
That's a shame. I have 90% of these songs already so I wasn't going to jump but now I know I won't. Probably sounds great in the car, though!
This is what Take Me Away looks like from the 1969 NICE 0014CD: Take Me Away from the comp. Take Me Away? Stay thee away.
Well, to be fair - this collection is aimed at the general public in a way to draw attention to them and get some new fans. That's the way Joe Public likes his cd's mastered! I hope it works for them - they deserve more attention, imho.
To be fair? I hope this sub-standard, crappy product deservedly sinks like a stone. I want my money back.
