Been enjoying my vintage 45 WPC STA 9o Realistic receiver in the garage system but I've been wanting a bit more oomph, being sick of FM radio anyhow I removed the STA 90 & I pulled out and dusted off my Pioneer A-717 integrated amp, nearly pulled a back muscle pulling it out too.

It kinda got lost in the system shuffle even though I always liked it, not completely sure why.

Fired it up, no issues, no static on the controls, ready, set go.

Sounds really nice, plenty of power reserve, deep fast bass, good mids and a nice soundstage with plenty of top end air without sizzle.

Power output: 100 watts per channel into 8Ω (stereo)
    Frequency response: 1Hz to 150kHz
    Total harmonic distortion: 0.003%
    Damping factor: 70
Input sensitivity: 0.2mV (MC), 2.5mV (MM), 150mV (line)
Signal to noise ratio: 77dB (MC), 95dB (MM), 108dB (line)
    Output: 150mV (line)
    Dimensions: 420 x 435 x 162mm
    Weight: 19kg

:righton: A buddy of mine used to own this and it did sound very nice as I recall. One of Pioneer's better achievements. Congrats on pulling it out... the Pioneer that is.

    Man....the garage IS rocking!!!

I've got Bernard Allison Kentucky Fried Blues Live spinning, Leave My Girl Alone is on. A wonderful sounding live CD.

That old STA 90 is a slick sounding little receiver, especially at modest listening levels. It can throw a VERY 3D soundstage, you want to look up and around to see where the music is coming from. I love it so for what it is.....but this hulking integrated puts it to shame when the volume gets turned to more realistic live levels.

I pulled my new budget Onkyo 7030 CD player out of the system and put in my high end hulking 40 pound Pioneer Elite PD-S95 transport, I'm currently using a reasonably priced late version Musical Fidelity M1DAC for a feed & it sounds really good set up like this.

This system could make me a garage bum from now on.

    Speakers are Pioneer DSS-5.

    LOL....:biglaugh:

It runs really hot, variable bias adjusting Class-A or non-switching amp what ever that means, but it does sound mighty fine.

More live blues, Lonnie Mack Attack Of The Killer V is now spinning.

Heck, I'm going to live in the garage for a few days and play live blues CD's, this system was meant for that.

Guess I'll pull the grill out and make a late night snack, got a bone in strip steak begging to be grilled.

Always great when half-forgotten gear gets pulled out of storage and starts making music again...

 To the Pioneer garage bums everywhere! Perhaps some Robert Cray Strong Persuader to start this fine Saturday morning off to a good start.

And maybe Zappa's Joe's Garage? And surely anything by Shed Seven!
