Steve, was your hand in this one at all? http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=890754342 Or this one? http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=890541090 TIA
Dave, I have the Progressive blues experiment and it is mastered by Elliott Federman/SAJE sound, NYC.
I don't think those Razor & Tie dudes liked my mastering technique very much. Everthing they released that was mastered on the, er, East Coast, was bright and grainy, and my stuff probably made them scratch their heads. The second (my champion) Mike Ragogna left Razor & Tie for Buddah, my gigs stopped as well....
Please call your friend as Buddah is doing some interesting remasters - like The Outlaws! We neeeed you there! Pretty please?
It wasn't jealousy in the case of Razor & Tie (I don't think). They truly like "bright" sounding mastering. I wouldn't do that for them, so they found someone who would, gladly.
Gary, Love the Outlaws! I have every incarnation on CD! What do you think of the latest batch of remasters? Michael
The last I'd seen, Mike Ragogna has been compiling hits packages at Universal. The Fixx Ultimate Collection he put together was great!! I think that's the first time anyone has used the correct single version of "One Thing Leads To Another" on CD. He's also worked on some other Ultimate Collection packages and some of the Millenium Collection compilations.
Check out the Rolling Stone collection in Women's Rock, a Razor & Tie collection. Something's off about that set. Besides being really loud, instruments and vocals sound wrong. It's like they changed the timber of the instruments, particularly the cymbals, to something false-sounding.
I have nothing but the remasters on CD but as it's all I can find, I love 'em! Not as bright as some remasters..... and better than the HDCD Magic Records incarnation out of France by a long shot. They did a 2 fer with the first and Lady in Waiting. As for the remasters, I just have the first two. I think Hurry Sundown is out but I've not seen it in these "hear" parts! How do you compare the oh-so-rare first CD releases to the remasters?
Gary, It's been so long since I've listened to the first issues. I'll have to pull them out and do a comparison. What's wrong with the HDCD CD? Hurry Sundown was released Twice. Outlaw-Three Times. Lady In Waiting-Twice Michael
If you can find "Bring'em Back Alive" on Arista or "Ghostriders" on Collecotrs Pipeline, they're not bad either. Hughie Thomasson is a monster guitar player without a doubt. Best - Ed
The Magic (French) HDCD CD sounds like it's from "X" generation tape, it's EQ'd (but not a lot) and it sounds very muddy compared to the remasters. I gave the 2 remasters that I have a quick Boo just now and they have good, wide stereo separation, they are clear, you can hear double vocal tracks, each separate guitar tracks, etc. and they are *not* overly EQ'd (i.e.: screechers!). They are great in my book! Of course Steve could do much, much better with these but I really can't complain too much about the remastering on these! They could be a lot worse, you know?? BTW I have an original CD release of Ghost Riders that I forgot about.... and Bringing it Back Alive, too! Why didn't we start an Outlaws thread????? Gort, can you perform some magic here?
