The original US LP sounds extraordinary. It's a demo quality disc, so that certainly sets a high bar.
Soooooo....the band just uploaded the greenpeace show video footage that has appeared in snippets throughout the years...in its entirety...on Facebook live... Why wouldn't this be in a boxset?
Wow, that's inexplicable. I was just listening to the show today and thought it would have been great if the full thing was released as a video.
I would guess that it probably has to do with the less than perfect quality of the video. I mean, it's fine, but likely below the threshold standard they would set for inclusion in the official box-set, as opposed to simply "releasing it into the wild" via the internet.
Well there's been fan discovered snippets and YouTube uploads of a few seconds here and there through the years but since they took the trouble to remaster the audio I think it's quite silly to not have it on the box set. Anybody know how to capture from fb? I'm afraid his won't last forever and it's hard to see through the million users who all say to reunite every nanosecond.
There's an add-in for firefox that can download flash vids. Works great for porn videos, or so I have heard, so might work on Facebook.
I picked up the new pressing in Amsterdam and no "CB" in the deadwax. I wonder why? The other reissues used the Chris Bellman cuts. It sounds okay but I suspect the Bellman one sounds better.
Over the decades European factories DID NOT use the original US matrices in absolute majority. The story continues...
I hear you. It just seems odd they used the Chris Bellman cuts for the other album reissues and not this one. Oh well.......
I would have expected the Bellman cut for the EU aswell for this release. I hear you about how EU cuts are often different.
This happens here and there. Each time you get a EU version and compare it with discogs info ( or actual vinyl deadwax) on US release you face the truth. In most cases the source matrix is different. First time I noticed that on Sabbath's 13 : my EU copy has gzvinyl+matrix code when US has just code and CB on each runout side!
For all those in the UK/Europe unhappy with the EU pressing, my second copy was much better but still quite a lot of surface noise on Drive so I returned it to Amazon where I’d paid £22, ordered a US import from the marketplace and ended up also paying £22. Took about 10 days to arrive but just finished spinning it now and it’s perfect. My advice is return your EU copy and get an import!
Holy cow, this US vinyl sounds great. I just listened to the whole thing through my headphones. The vinyl isn't the quietest I've heard. Also the level is a bit low due to the length but it sounds great when cranked up. No inner groove distortion at all which I was worried about before I spun it. There is some quite strident viola at the end of side 1 and Michaels vocal level is up there at the end of side 2. My modest U-turn table tracked it like a champ. I haven't heard this album on vinyl before but you really can't go wrong with this one. Amazon still is out of stock of this title and I couldn't find it locally. Seems like it was in higher demand than they thought. I wonder if the Green or Out Of Time vinyl reissues got snatched up this fast? I don't remember anyone raving about the sound quality of those 2 vinyl reissues.
While a couple I have manufactured in 2017 have been defect free, I'm still getting that 'ocean wave' background noise.
