Found this new Joe Jackson cover of Scary Monsters which is pretty good. Joe should have realised that if you're playing at the Wolf Trap and you wanna cover a Scary Monsters track, the one to pick should be Teenage Wildlife

    From a local news article:

From left to right on the wall, the Bauhaus logo, Peter Murphy, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, Al Jourgensen of Ministry, Deborah Harry, Joey Ramone of the Ramones, David Bowie, Depeche Mode's logo, Ian Curtis of Joy Division, Morrissey, Siouxsie of Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Robert Smith of The Cure.

So you got most of them right. I only recognized Deborah, Joey and David :D

I have been reading Paul Morley's Age Of Bowie book and was struck by this comment, especially in the wake of several other recent departures....

Rock music has increasingly become a matter of death as its leading exponents and pioneers reach an age where what lies ahead for a few years is a constant stream of rock stars dying. The rock scene in a very real sense is coming to an end in a series of tragic moments. The music that began as an articulation of youth and a making up of the future is entering a definite twilight zone made up mostly of memory that is taking some getting used to.

It depends how far you think the sense of anger and depravation goes back. Lydon was 18 when Wilson took over from Heath, and his resentment must have been brewing up in the early 1970s.
I think Thatcher was the mother of 1980s post-punk radicalism, but also Rio and Club Tropicana.

What do you think of Morley's book? I thought I would hate it (I usually can't stand him) but I really liked it, especially on the 1960s period.

Funnily enough that reminds of the time in the cocaine period when David claimed he was pro-fascism in an interview.

I didn't like him as a writer back when and I had more than enough of him with ZTT but I quite like his books, I just skirt over the more annoying bits. Better read than seen/listened to of course, but he is not alone in that. Still 100pps to go.
