    Neil Simon Dead at 91

Just a few days ago, I was thinking about how lucky we were to still have him with us. I had no idea he was unwell.

Me neither but if you are 91 you have had a good innings and death is not a big surprise.

Sad news. I fondly remember "Barefoot in the Park" - the movie with Robert Redford and Jane Fonda. Of course it was a Broadway play before that. RIP

Simon's work always seemed to me to put words in characters' mouths, that the audience wished they would have been able to say if in the same conversation.
Erudite as thay may be, it was distraction for me. Can't please everybody, I guess.

That said, here's to a major force in the vernacular of stage comedy for half a century, whose influence and wit will continue to be felt for decades.

And, here's to all the lovers of comedy and drama, whose lights are just a little dimmer today.

The Heartbreak Kid was probably my favorite thing he wrote (an adaptation).

I remember Neil Simon seemed like a big deal when I was a kid in the 70s.

Not sure how well a lot of his stuff holds up, but I do love the TV version of "The Odd Couple"!

I don’t know how well it holds up either. And I guess my earlier post came off as sort of a backhanded compliment, didn’t it? But I really do love the 1972 Heartbreak Kid, and I think Simon did a terrific job fleshing out what was originally a short story.

Rest In Peace to a great writer, for whom we were better off for having and lesser for no longer having.
