Just got back from Motley/Alice Cooper show at the Hollywood Bowl and it had me thinking if there have been any other instances where a HOF act has been the opening act. Are there any?

Not offhand. 1986 inductees the Everly Brothers opened for Simon & Garfunkel, themselves inductees in 1990.

My very first concert in 1970 was Linda Ronstadt opening for Arlo Guthrie.

Do you just want cases where the HOF inductee is IN the HOF when he/she/they open for the non-inductee, or are all time periods/statuses okay?

A year ago I could've answered "I saw AC/DC open for Kiss", but they're both in the HOF now...

Saw the Kinks open for the Foreigner 4 tour at JFK Stadium (there were three other bands before the Kinks - Huey Lewis, Joan Jett and Loverboy). I guess the Kinks couldn't have been inducted yet then, but I'm sure they have been since.

Saw Chuck Berry open for the Grateful Dead in 95, when he was in and they were not.

The Pretenders opening for the B-52s in St. Louis. I believe they alternated the headline slot from city to city.

This would have been a few years before the Pretenders were inducted.

The Grateful Dead were inducted in 1994.........both were in by those Portland shows.

Thanks for the correction. I think I was confusing the induction with when Hornsby did a tribute to them at a HOF concert in August or Sept 95.

Prior to their (2013) RORHOF induction, Heart did a tour opening for Journey.

Alice Cooper also opened for Deep Purple, prior to his installation into Wenner's Pop 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

Do you mean after the band was inducted?

If not my answer would be the standard answer for the opening-bands-blowing-headliners-off-the-stage threads: AC/DC opening for Thin Lizzy and the headliner Blue oyster Cult.

The Everly Brothers did not open for Simon & Garfunkel on that tour. Simon & Garfunkel brought the Everly Brothers out about halfway through the show, as a special tribute to the brothers' influence on S&G.

About a month ago I saw The Family Stone open for Average White Band. Does that count?

Yes, I was going with the 'already a HOF member' opening for a non member. Funny Beck opening for ZZ Top should have been top of my mind as I'm well aware of their upcoming Greek Theater show. Rode my bike past the venue/marquee on Sunday. Dopey me.

I was going to say King Crimson opening for Tool, but that shows how well I know who’s in (or not in) the HoF.
