    Any love for this release?

Which sounds best, the 1990 release on Repertoire, or the more recent remaster with bonus tracks?

me too, ever since I got turned on to 10CC a few months ago and realized its the entire band backing some acid-fruitloops...and now I recall all the times I've seen the Repetoire disc used for way cheap in Tokyo....:sigh:

I prefer the original mastering, but the extra tracks on the remaster are essential, and it doesn't sound bad.

I love this album! From what I have gathered over the years there are 4 versions of this album on CD:

    1990 Repertoire
    Si Wan 199?
    Progressive Line 200?
The current Repertoire digipak issue with bonus tracks

I have the 1990 Repertoire, and that's the only version I have heard.

The original Rep and Si-Wan are identical, iirc.

The Progressive Line is a pirate issue, of course.

I haven't heard the recent version.

Cool album...I've only heard the current Repertoire and it sounded fine to me. But without anything to compare it to it can be hard to tell.

How much better is the original? Do I need both, or can I get by with the remaster?

Not a huge difference, but some nuances that I can't quite explain. The remaster is fine.

Can someone post a screencap of the recent Repertoire remaster?

Not to encourage the purchase of grey area CD's, the Progressive Line issue has some bonus tracks from Glass Top Coffin. I don't know what the holdup is for this to come out as a sanctioned release?

    Bump.

This is the most relevant thread I can find on this masterpiece. Anyone with half a mind for folk-psych or 10cc (and isn't turned off by the other...a potentially rare combination) should investigate post haste!

And it's definitely Kevin Godley singing lead on at least two songs, so they're essentially 10cc recordings written by Ramases!

Wow, I didn't know there was a 6 CD box set for this outfit. Back sometime in the late 90s, Peter Stormare, a big Ramases fan had his email address on an obscure Ramases fan site run by a guy in South Africa which disappeared a few years later of the net never to be seen again. As it turns out this very box set was put out by Peter Stormare on his own label Stormvox.

The Ramases website that I used to visit over 15+ years ago is still online but since time has lapsed and I didn't bother to look at the Ramases wiki page, it was right under my nose and has evolved into a bigger, better and more comprehensive site from it's original. Still run by the Ramases fan from South Africa, and packed with a wealth of info and photos:

P.S. I can't help myself in thinking how hot Selket was back in the day::faint:

Does anyone else have the 6 CD Ramases box set and care to comment on the sound, packaging and any other details?

hey, it's on spotify. I didn't know about the box, but space hymns and glass top coffin are both terrific records and I've only ever had (mediocre) needledrop mp3s of both.

I'll be listening to this soon. thanks for the reminder to look.

I'm not on Spotify but I can listen to Glass Top Coffin on YouTube. I already have Space Hymns on CD. I was just wondering if anyone else has the 6 CD box set since it contains 3 discs of rare and previously unreleased material.

It's terrific in all aspects. A write-up of the Ramases box set says ...

"This is no rote kitchen-sink project. The record label owner, actor Peter Stormare, whose fandom goes back to Ramases’ 1971 debut album, has crafted two outstanding and unique discs from the limited catalog: One, a significant sonic restoration of Ramases’ troubled second album; the other an unusually viable tribute album from contemporary artists. Both reveal the extent to which the late Ramases’ music transcended its space and time. ... "
