Damn right! Anything below an 8 is nuts - especially when I see some of the stuff those people rate higher. "Do You Want to Know a Secret" above "There's a Place"?

 

I give Theres a Place 10/10. It's brilloantly constructed and quite a bit ahead of its time for The Beatles.

 

I agree. I don't know what I was thinking. Great song, great album! several 11's in there.

 

Completely disagree, this one has tons of feeling, especially when John belts out the lines 'Can't help myself!' and 'Don't want nobody!'.

Your comment makes me think of something. That song was my favorite song on Introducing... The Beatles when I bought it, at age 7, in @March '64. It still is. But my real point here is that almost all of the Beatles songs that I favored back in the '60s are the songs that I favor now. Not sure exactly what to make of that, but anyway . . .

 

So I guess that constitutes a vintage U.S. release of There's A Place on vinyl, but I imagine that was hard to find after the Capitol onslaught. As to your observation, I agree, with the possible exception of Maxwell's Silver Hammer.

 

Yes, it was the Vee-Jay LP. (As for "Maxwell's . . . ", I don't know what the statute of limitations is on that sort of thing, but even in '69, I was "not guilty". )

Three great songs, several good ones and a few fair ones still made for a better album than just about anyone else in the pop music field had ever made!

 

There's a Place is still a stunning song. Powerful music, amazing lyrics; you can see in hindsight where Lennon was coming from even back then. Amazing.
