You may just think it's just cosmetic, but this scratch stands out from the others. It doesn't have a shadow and looks deep as if it's ON the disc. It's the only shiny scratch so I believe it's ON the disc... :help:

Not all CDs from the factory are perfect, either.

What's done is done. It's only a good deal, if you think it's a good deal.

I've paid more for cd singles, so I think that's a heck of a deal, you buy it to play right?

If the disc is playing without problems and you're happy about the music, it's a good deal.
When I visited the US in 1998 those DCC discs were easy to find and not very expensive, so I brought back home three Wings titles: "Red Rose Speedway", "Venus And Mars" and "Speed Of Sound". I don't plan to sell them even after buying the Archive editions, that's how good they sound to me. In fact, I wish I had purchased the "Ringo" DCC disc as well.

I bought a new DCC Linda Ronstadt greatest hits a number of years ago and it was sealed without an outer case. :shake:

To me that looks like the type of thin light scratch that will not cause any playback problems. I wouldn't worry about it.

    Can you return it?

If you are not happy, then it isn't a good deal, IMO.

I unsealed the DCC today and the scratch is giving me errors on EAC

CDs are read from the inside out. “Venus and Mars” fills up a little more than half the available space. So there should be no information on the outer rim where the scratch is. The errors must have another cause.

Also the scratch is on the front of the disc, not the actual data side.

The scratch can be seen through both sides of the disc

oh okay. But as someone else said, the data likely doesn't go that far out. What track are your EAC errors on?

Well, CueTools was able to fix the rip. CueRipper found 268 suspicious sectors

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't new DCCs shrink-wrapped ? I've only ever seen them this way in the local stores. The problem with shrink seal is that anyone can do it at home, so there's no real way to know if the disc is pre-owned or straight from the manufacturer. Some might argue that if the disc plays, then there is no real difference. I would argue that not everyone who handles CDs understands that things like solvent chemicals or even plain old H2O, while presently undetectable, could have come in contact with the disc at some point and potentially compromised the life-expectancy of the media, the chances of occurrence increasing the more times ownership changes hands. I suppose cellophane sealing machines can be used by second-hand traders as well, but they are less common than shrink-wrapping kits.

That's a flaw in the data layer.
