    Hi Prix/Steve,

Lowthers/horns, where correctly set-up, will give you the most accurate bass you could ask for - with acoustic/orchestral music. But on balance, for your classic rock/soul taste, the Tannoy route may prove best.

    Cheers,
    MarkM.

Just spoke with a high end dealer in my search for a pair of used vintage Tannoys. He says "Why do you want those? They honk like crazy and they sound nasal as hell." Comments??

He must be deaf as a post.

He is confusing Altec with Tannoy I'm sure.

    Chaps,

He could also be confusing Lowthers with Tannoys. This is often a throw away remark used when speaking about full range horns/drivers/quasi-horns.

Lowthers, admitedly, sound honky when new (notorious for this) they need at least 500 + hrs to get going and even then have a bit of a warm-up period when starting from cold - I usually leave the tuner on to burble away for 1/2 hr before listening.

However, I have never heard this remark used against Tannoys - suggest your man is misinformed.

CAFE JEFF can pass on more info' re' "living with Tannoys"

    Cheers,
    MarkM
