The early '70s were a wonderful time for pop and rock artists. The era featured a wide variety of styles, a lot of creative and independent artist were getting recorded, & production quality was at it's peak IMO. An 'overlooked' album that I'd recommend is fine slide guitarist Ellen McIlwaine's "We the People". Great music & great production (recorded at the Record Plant and Mastered by Robert Ludwig.) Was sorry to see that Ellen's music didn't get more attention. .
