Seen Oldboy and Secret in their Eyes, The Skin I Live In sounds interesting.

  4. The 1988 original film by George Sluizer (who also directed the remake) is better. One of the few films where I couldn't stand Jeff Bridges performance (who I normally think is a brilliant actor).

  5. The Invitation is a pretty good movie and the ending is really disturbing. You can figure out to a degree what is going on but the last three minutes will surprise you.

Edit: Looks like someone aside from me loved it.

The Last Wave by Peter Weir is also pretty terrific.

Night Move with Gene Hackman (although it's a slow burner).

    Three Days of the Condor

    Prisoners (with Hugh Jackman).

It's a stunner. I remember saying out loud, "No, no no," when I got an inkling about what was going to be revealed. Excellent film.

If you want something more, try 'The Killing' (original Danish version). 3 seasons and each a different case. Gripping stuff. I find most of the European crime thriller stuff excellent (Spiral is another great series).

I wouldn't call it horrifying, unless you have issues. It's more of a love story with a twist.

Pedro Almodovar is an expert in these, apart from the already mentioned The Skin I Live In there is also:

    Bad Education
    Broken Embraces

    Others:

Child 44 with Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (I'd recommend the Fincher version)
    Se7en of course
Dario Argento's Suspiria of course, and Deep Red
    The Omen
    Rosemary's Baby

Brian De Palma is almost the definition of 'dark thriller with horrifying secret':

    Sisters
    Dressed To Kill
    Blow Out

    And my offbeat choice

The brilliant Murder By Decree, which has a Christopher Plummer Sherlock Holmes investigating Jack The Ripper. It's genuinely chilling, builds up the tension as he gets in deeper and also extremely moving.

The House that Screamed (1970) is a creepy Spanish horror/thriller whodunit and very much of the times with an avalanche of exploitative sexual themes.

You should see Memento and Insomnia (both by Christopher Nolan) if you haven’t already. Insomnia is a remake of a Norwegian film that was acclaimed in its own right, so the original might be worth seeing too.

I've been binge watching the Danish series 'The Killing' based on your recommendation over the last few days. I've reached the latter end of season one and man, this is such a good series! I usually prefer feature films to tv series since a lot of them tend to go on and on with way too many side stories but this one is excellent. Thanks again.

Yeah, it's so well done. Season 2 and 3 are just as good too. I've got loads of great subtitled European series I can recommend also if you want more.

I had a one-liner that I was gonna give that was not only funny, but would also steer you toward a few worthy titles. But then I remembered what era we're in, so I opted not to.
