The kids were watching the Incredibles the other day, and the soundtrack reminded me how much I like the sound of crime and spy jazz from the 1950s and 60s. I know Henry Mancini and Quincy Jones' work but there must be many others. I already have the Rhino Crime Jazz compilation. Any recommendations?

P.S. I really like the sound when the surf guitar gets introduced sometime in the 60s. The soundtrack from the Spider-Man animated series of 1967 is a good example of this.

Thanks! Interesting station. But what's playing now is a bit on the eccentric side :)

John Barry! How could I forget? And it's got the surf guitar. Brilliant. Thanks.

Yes, John Barry records highly recommended. I also highly recommend Dick Hyman's "The Man From O.R.G.A.N", Al Caiola's "Sounds For Spies & Private Eyes", and any interesting LP in the genre of Spies and Private Eyes which catches your fancy.

These are some really cool recommendations! Just what I was looking for. I am not well versed in French cinema, so I never heard of that Miles Davis soundtrack.

I always thought that incidental crime movie/TV music greatly influenced parts of Miles Davis' "Bitches Brew". It's one of the reasons that I don't particularly like the album. I like the style but in its context.

This one was released this year. It's pretty awesome! Contains obscure recordings made between 1967-1975.

Yep. The series of boxes put out by moochin' is great for all these ol' jazzy soundtracks.

Any soundtrack with a Lalo Schiffrin credit is worth taking home, he did a lot of spy and cop movie soundtracks. I also love any Riz Ortolani and Enno Morricone soundtracks. They are all superb.

Thanks again for all the suggestions. I think I'll have enough for a long time, esp. if I get that 8-disc box set.
