The best two options I use are:

    - L'Art Du Son, just use 30ml per 1 litre of distilled water;
    - A mix of 50:50 IMS (Industrial Methylated Sprits) and distilled water.

Thanks so much Richard. Is this a combined process or one or the other? If one or the other..do you get better result from one? Or are both the same result?

For very, very used (and maybe somewhat abused) and dusty, dirty records, I saw Dr. Demento using Dawn dishwashing liquid soap and a Clorox non-abrasive toilet bowl brushing pad (with the chemicals rinsed out) in the kitchen sink.

And you know what? It works.

I don't know a damn thing about vinyl. Haven't owned it since the early 80's, but I was just watching a program on the Grateful Dead yesterday and former Warner Bros. executive Joe Smith was talking about playing one of the Dead's albums and cleaning it with Windex.

Actually I use tap water and Dawn with a foam car detailing brush, has worked for the 1000's of transfers I've done...

I love the mofi enzyme cleaner and then store bought distilled water as a rinse. Simple, not crazy expensive. I use those with my VPI 16.5. I've had great results.

Nothing wrong with LAST. At the very least, it has no negative effect whatsoever. I certainly hope your opinion is based on first hand experience.

I use Art Du Son in the Okki Nokki, and it works fine. I will try the Hannl fluid when I finish the AdS, to make a comparison.

My dad got drunk and used furniture polish when I was a kid... ruined dozens of records... this was the early 70's and my father sobered up for good a few years later. :uhhuh:

Does anyone use the forum search function anymore? There are numerous threads discussing practically every aspect of record cleaning.

With vacuum RCM I use 50% Disc Doctor's Miracle Record Cleaner + 50% distilled water. For dusty, dirty records I first clean the record manually with a solution of 95% distilled water and 5% Alconox Liquinox.

LAST is not a record cleaner. Its a product marketed decades ago to make records 'last' longer and sound better.

sorry I thought what I said was clear - calling it Last Preservative

LAST is a preservative not cleaning solutions
many people use LAST after cleaning records
    it may sound quiet initially
it is detrimental to your lps

try getting it off thirty year old records

my friend had some major issues
it breaks down unevenly with time - gunking things up

    search on the forums

Never heard that. LAST penetrates vinyl and becomes one with it, on a molecular level."Gunk"coming of 30 year records is in no way going to be LAST. Not even remotely possible,

a liquid penetrating vinyl which transmits sound by a small needle making undulations which are transferred by magnets to be amplified isn't something I would trust

I am not sure what it does on the molecular level
it adheres to the vinyl not penetrates it

Approximately 25 ml for 1 liter of distilled water. But I usually prepare less solution (to avoid it getting spoiled), using the same proportion.

More than that, and it tends to produce foam, which is a thing you don't want with the Okki.

I am using a simply Knosti. As the original liquid is too expensive, I use Sidolin with alcohol. Usually it's a liquid to clean glass...but it's cheap and works fine :)

91% Isopropyl alcohol. Never had a negative impact on my vinyl in the years I've used it. Cheap, and the low water levels mean little to no surface tension, so it can get deep in the grooves. You have to know how to work your Record Cleaning Machine quickly or it'll evaporate straight off the vinyl though.

Not for Shellac 78s, of course.

    perhaps

there are many comments in this forum and on Audiogon from people who learned the hard way
this is just a public service announcement from someone who has friends who had issues with LAST

    ymmv
