I also added a fresh '80's Epic label. The one on the site was terrible and since I just did the last Teena Marie album, I used it's Epic label to create a new usable blank label for the site.

"If I Were A Bell" is amazing - point blank. I also like "The Red Zone". The intro is very interesting. "Just Us Two" is one of her better latter-day fast tunes, and "How Can You Resist It" is a cool acoustic ballad too. Beyond that, I can live without this one.

As much as a great singer she was (she could sing the phone book and melt the hardest of hearts), I am always attracted to her funk songs.m As far as i'm concerned, she learned well from her mentor, so well that she could out-funk Rick James!

    Newly added:

Sylvers - "Bizarre" (front, back, sleeves, labels)

    Sylvers – Bizarre | Vinyl Album Covers.com

I also added a blank white Geffen label to go with it.

P.S.: The Geffen label has no rim text. That's why you don't see it. I didn't remove it. It just isn't there... ;)

Never heard of this album, but I figure someone has to get scans of the more obscure 80s R&B albums out there. Everything needs to be archived in hight quality! I keep thinking about all those rare and obscure covers from that time that are out there on the net, but the person who scanned them did it at 300 x 300, and looks crappy. Oh, why don't people care like we do? If I could afford a $2000 12" scanner, i'd do a lot of them, but working with a regular scanner and stiching drives me up the wall!

I'm honestly not sure. The cover of this thing matches it's title exactly so I had to do it. The album's not as bad as it's lack of sales suggest either. The first covers on the site were done with stitching and they turned out pretty well. It wasn't maddening to do them but they did take a bit more time. I've looked at a few recently and feel no need to redo them as I think they look fine. My 12/12 scanner does make a world of difference in terms of time. I never would have done the Reader's Digest box without it - that's for sure. It's a shame more don't do these. I enjoy doing them and they do have an audience as the "hit" data from the website suggest.

I have lots of R&B/soul, and jazz albums from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and if I can find a cover online at all, it's atrocious! Often, they come from European/U.K. music bloggers who have links to file-sharing sites to download CD rips of the albums. The covers are anywhere from passable to awful. The ones you find on Discogs are even worse. Most of the album art sites mostly have just Eurocentric rock and metal covers, since it seems lovers of R&B/soul and jazz aren't into digital preservation. AAX has the best chance of finding covers, but it is woefully missing lots of stuff.

The results on AAX aren't always the greatest either. As you said, they are also greatly deficient in the R&B category. They accept nothing less than 300dpi so that's decent but colors can be off. Still, it's a cool resource and I'm glad it's there.

AAX has nothing against any type of music (have you seen some of the damn-near porn on some of those covers?), but the artists that contribute just aren't into that music.

There are a few artists that i've made mental notes of. If I do download any of their stuff, I know I have to de-saturate them, and sometimes correct the color tones.

Yup, above all, they are still the best for the vast variety of covers anywhere. No one can touch them!

See? That's (obviously) what I'm into most. I like some Rock and some Pop but I'm mostly into R&B and Jazz. Turns out my taste in music creates the niche that justifies the existence of the site. Also, the labels you were the initial supplier of add tremendously to the uniqueness. Others are keeping it going and it's very cool.

I gotta figure out a way to get my record cover stash restored for the web. There's always someone out there who needs album covers for their digital collections. Most people just google up stuff, but Google searches don't always offer the best covers, if they are found at all. And AAX won't allow their images to be directly linked.

I know and I don't get that. Our site has unlimited bandwidth so I don't honestly care myself. Not sure why they do either.
