This 40 ( ! ) year old comedy still holds up well I think.
Watched it again a week ago and laughed lots of times at the antics of Bluto and his Delta House brothers.

I think the attitude towards females in this movie has not aged well.

well, I was in college when it hit and being at PSU, which was a bastion of alcoholism to begin with, so you can guess that it was EVERYWHERE. Toga parties were so rampant, they were passe in a month. Movie itself was hysterical. My wife just loved John in it, even the peeping Tom scene (the John look). Even when he falls down on the lawn (not meant to happen), she just busts out laughing.

Honestly, Animal House makes me think John Landis is one of the great comic directors in the history of Film. I think he's very underrated

Donald Sutherland was offered 2% of the gross, or a flat fee of $35,000. Not thinking too much of the film's prospects, he chose the latter. Bad move.

Probably not, but that's gonna be true of a lot of movies from the 1970s - or TV shows, etc.

Due to recent events we can't discuss here, I got into a Twitter argument about "Gone With the Wind" the other day. The guy didn't understand how I could criticize the movie's rampant racism and still recommend it as a movie.

Art needs to be seen through the prism of its era. What offends us now didn't bug us in 1978.

Crud, people still love "Breakfast at Tiffany's" despite a slew of socially problematic choices - like Mickey Rooney's absurdly racist performance as an Asian character.

"Animal House"'s problems are small potatoes compared to some of these flicks! :)

This one, Mel Brooks' "Young Frankenstein" and "Blazing Saddles" and the first half of "Stripes" (before they get into that RV and that movie begins to fall apart), are the comedies that still really stand in my book.

One of my favorite scenes from "Animal House" features one of my favorite singer/songwriters, Stephen Bishop ("On And On" and "It Might Be You" (Tootsie)) ...

So ... be honest ... how many of you realized, back in the day, that the same actress who played Pinto's girlfriend from the Food King played Danny Noonan's girlfriend in "Caddyshack"?

Watched it last week along with a few other Belushi/National Lampoon items.
Belushi doing Joe Cocker is unreal.
Been enjoying the films since the early VHS '80's.

Not to get pinnickity with you ……. but IIRC it's 'Fat, Drunk and......

  25. It's funny how one of the things the movie was/is well known for is the "food fight" scene, when the scene is literally less than five seconds long.
