I saw it. But when he picks up the phone, he says "hello, this is Bill Miller"

I wonder if we are talking about the same guy???

The original pots sound the best, so yes, I would have them cleaned. However, some of them are corroded beyond cleaning, and in that case, they need to be replaced. The best place to get them is from Larry Lagace (518-869-3665).

The spider is a disc of folded stiff fabric that sits at the apex of the cone. It keeps the voice coil centered in the gap.

    Excursion is outward woofer movement.

The best way to pack the woofers is face to face. Find a box that they both fit in face to face, and slip a piece of cardboard between them. This way, even if they shift in shipping, nothing can poke the cone.

Thanks, Joe ... I paid $20 a pair for the AR-2ax's ... sounds like it will take another $120 a pair to have the pots cleaned/replaced and the woofers refoamed including shipping both ways ... is it really worth investing $140 in a pair of 2-way speakers? ...

That's how much I paid for a reconditioned pair, and I love 'em! :)

The AR-2ax is a three way speaker, and yes, I feel that it is worth it!

So the round black thing ... with what appears to be a metal cover ... above the woofer on the left ... is a speaker? ... mid-range? ...

Yes. It is actually a cone, that is damped with a fiberglass pad, that is held in place with a metal mesh.

On the back of the speaker cabinet, there are two level adjustments. One for the tweeter, and one for the mid.

The above described speaker is on the right ... above the woofer ... on mine ... the one on the left has a black ... metal (?) ... cover ... with 2 exposed terminals at the bottom ... with single copper wires going to each terminal from inside the cabinet ...

Edit - I found a picture of the speakers on eBay ... it is the tweeter ...

Yes, the little black dome is the tweeter.
