Well, I guess I've heard worse ideas, but I can't remember when. I think I would stop taking advice from the "somebody" who told you to do this. If you want to retip your cartridge, send it to people who know what they're doing, like Soundsmith. Unfortunately, it will cost more than an M44-7 stylus.

Needledoctor.com and perhaps other online stores offer trade-ins on Grado cartridges. You send them your old cartridge, and they send you a brand-new one at a discounted price. That would be less expensive than buying a new one outright, unless you can somehow get a lower price in Japan. I'm almost certain you cannot replace the Grado stylus itself, as illustrated in the video you posted.

i ask the guy who's in the video.
he did it with clearaudio catridge but not sure about grado.
it has different structure, you can pull out stylus on clearaudio and put it back with modified one.

i think i gonna get used one in japan(i have old ortofon as a spare part though,it's not good as grado)

anyway,i like to switch to Blue point Sumiko.
my last trip i found blue point at 50% cheaper at audio union in japan.

    thank you for your opinion.

I love that picture. I would only work with Grado and have them retip it.
