The Beatles' REVOLUTION, which was the b-side of Hey Jude, and the Stones' STREET FIGHTING MAN, both released during the same week in the waning, hot days of August 1968. There was something in the air. Given these two choices, which side are you on?

Seriously, back then The Beatles angered me, but now the Stones seem like they were posturing.

C'mon, Stones vs. Beatles? This is hardly a fair fight. But what could a poor boy do 'cept go with "Street Fighting Man". ; )

Both great songs, but "Street Fighting Man" is better. It also sounds better, which is not something you would normally say about a Stones '60's recording compared to a Beatles recording.

The drum sound on "Street Fighting Man" is clearly superior too. Especially when you consider it came from a miniature drum kit. The drums on "Revolution" sound very, very dull.

Throw in Keith's killer bass lines and it's a pretty easy choice.

Both brilliant songs. I'm going with 'Street Fighting Man' though. Hits the zeitgeist.

This is a tough one, i think musically i prefer the Stones song, lyrically Revolution.....or is it the other way around, no vote.

  13. This is getting silly. Nothing The Beatles ever released can compare with "Street Fighting Man".

Like Street Fighting Man but Revolution is to me the better song - and it rocks hard..love those dirty distorted guitars and Lennon's scream at the beginning.

Revolution has a more meaningful and well-reasoned sentiment while Street Fighting Man just jams.

    Winner: Street Fighting Man

I don't care much for "Street Fighting Man", if I shall be frank. The melody of the verses, which I always have found rescembles a police siren in the way it goes back and forth between the two main notes, is perfectly taylored to the theme, but it has always sounded off to me. Voted for "Revolution"; mostly on the strength of the sardonic tilt of the White Album version, which, in my opinion, is far superior to the unbalanced nature of the single version.

I wouldn't know.. I'm too busy listening to those grungy guitars and Lennon's gut-wrenching vocals.

I never liked Street Fighting Man, it has a chorus but the rest of the song is just bad.

Yeah, the guitars sound nice and dirty...but Richards' guitars on "Street Fighting Man" are acoustic, so you can't really compare the two. And Lennon delivers a typically passionate vocal...but it's no more effective than Jagger's is.

And the drums still sound average.

    In my opinion.

I'm not saying that the drumming is lousy, although Ringo is no Charlie Watts, just the sound of the drums. They sound kinda muffled. It's the song's only weak point.
