Need expert opinion here. Been thinking of picking up
Nuggets, My Favorite Things and In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
on vinyl but a little gun shy.

Would like comments on overall Rhino quality first and if
anyone has copies of the LPs mentioned above.

Thanks in advance for your time and interest!

I don't have those titles, but Rhino vinyl is usually excellent IMO.

Rhino gives some of the more premium labels a real run for their money most of the time IMO. I have Nuggets and it's quite good.

It really depends on where they have their albums pressed and who mastered them.

You really need to be specific about titles and particular Rhino pressings. Rhino uses half a dozen different pressing plants just in the last five or so years, probably just as many if not more mastering engineers. The quality varies.

Even popular reissues they've done have sometimes been pressed at more than one plant around the same time. For example, U.S. copies could be done at Rainbo while Euro copies are done at Optimal.

just to echo everyone else, I've always been happy with my purchases. Favorites include: Otis Redding "Pain in My Heart" mono, Black Sabbath "Paranoid" on blue vinyl and Cibo Matto "Viva La Woman" on Orange

Agreed. It depends on who they use. Recently, I bought Rhino's pressing of Joni Mitchell's Blue, which sounds really good. It was pressed by RTI. Sometimes RTI can be hit or miss and my pressing wasn't very good.

Usually, I'm pretty happy with the quality of Rhino's output. Very good customer service as well.

Watch out here. It depends on from what period you're buying it. Within the last few years, it seems to have been quite good, with good mastering. But they had a period with poor digital mastering. Their reissue of The Last Waltz many years ago, complete with posters and ticket facsimiles, etc., was absolutely AWFUL, bright, with a midrange suckout. I was so aghast as to how bad it was, I needed to get a second opinion. Michael Fremer, who had not received a copy to review, asked me to send him mine to listen to. He agreed that it was really bad, and that the original pressing, while not perfect, is better. They recently re-released it again, I think, for a Record Store Day. I don't know if it was any better.

I have a Sun Records collection on a picture disc which actually sounds quite good.

I have good copy of that RTI Blue. Maybe try another copy. I bought mine a few years back, dunno if they did another run at some point. It's worth getting a good copy of that one. Same with Court and Spark and Heijira on Rhino.

I would but I didn't like the album. This was the first time I listened to Joni Mitchell and probably the last time.

That's funny. I find it hard to believe that someone would buy a Joni record without knowing what they are getting into...

I believe you. I buy stuff blind all the time. Just surprised someone hasn't heard Joni until recently.
