I like the look of these two (or three!) Imminent... Closing Time, The Heart Of Saturday Night, Foreign Affairs, Small Change & Nighthawks At The Diner Tom Waits Already out there: Randy Newman (1968), 12 Songs (1970), Sail Away (1972), Good Old Boys (1974) and Little Criminals (1977) Randy Newman Already out there Tim Buckley, Goodbye & Hello, Happy Sad, Blue Afternoon, & Lorca Tim Buckley
I got that one recently and it's really good indeed. Nice sound and a fantastic bargain, especially because some of the original CDs have been out of print for years.
Some more discussion about these sets here Warner Brothers Original Album Series (5 cd's, 2010), Anyone Have Opinions on These? http://stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=222640
Randy Newman anyone....? A review at Amazon.uk states these CDs to be the original Warner releases, can anyone comment on sound quality? Thanks, Trevor. P.S. In a previous thread I said I'd buy a Randy Newman set if they bought it out, they did, be careful what you ask for!!!
just got the ministry 5 pack I'll post the eac levels against the original sire if anyone's interested,so far as to listening to twitch i think these are just copies
Closing Time / The Heart Of Saturday Night / Foreign Affairs / Small Change & Nighthawks At The Diner Tom Waits Bought this recently and am very pleased to say all five CDs in this slimline box sound very good. I guess the same comments will apply to all 5 Tim Buckley titles too.
I have the Dionne Warwick 5 CD set. I think it's her first five albums on Scepter. The sound is excellent... I also have no other CDs to compare with... these are the only Cd issues of those albums I've ever come across.
Randy Newman I received the 5 CD set for Xmas. I believe these are the original masterings, they are quiet and sound good to my ears. Regards, Trevor.
I have the Buckley set and it sounds good. I had Goodbye and Hello both original and remastered CDs and believe the mastering here to be the first one but can't be sure. I will say the packaging is among the very worst I've seen. The covers are spineless and printed on thin and very poor quality paper with no inner sleeves or liners. No credits, booklets or notes of any kind. The price is very low so I can't complain however.

Well, yeah, but I thought there were some legal issues surrounding this album. It just seems odd that you can include it in a box set but not individually.
The sound on this Duke Ellington & His Orchestra is excellent. Will Big Bands Ever Come Back? Duke Ellington's Jazz Violin Session Duke Ellington Plays The Original Score from Walt Disney's Mary Poppins Ellington '65 Ellington '66 This box is worth holding just to hear the essential Duke's Jazz Violin Session. Much to my surprise I really enjoyed Will Big Bands Ever Come Back? & Mary Poppins. The '65 & '66 have some lovely moments too.
These are great sets. Really love the Dr John and Little Feat collections. Sound good, real bargains. We need more archive material from the record companies released like this (Wish they'd do Ry Cooders first five albums in this series!)
For me this is great way to re-discover some old music that I had previous on cassette, lol Just got The Echo & Bunnymen and Reo Speed-wagon set
I agree, but for Bonnie Raitt I wish they just collected her first five albums unremastered (they sound great that way)... Also lacking is Tony Joe White Original Album Series!
I love these sets and the Sony Original Album Classics box sets. I don't recall seeing anything from Rhino I considered worth buying other than the Original Album Series box sets the last few years.
I have 9 of these sets and for a lazy $20 a pop theyre bargains The sets I have are; THE CARS THE CORRS DOKKEN DREAM THEATER FOREIGNER THE J GEILS BAND KIX LOUDNESS THE SISTERS OF MERCY
really? after reading this thread i googled more on the releases. there are many complaining some of the titles in the series are not good sounding at all.
Just got hold of the Tim Buckley.... It's great being able to get hold of so many interesting (revive) albums by the same artist(s) - all in one swoop, and at such an attractive price! I do hope the companies involved continue to market their back catalogue in this manner.
