I'm with the OP. I'm introverted to a degree and don't drink, so this isn't something that I'd be compelled to go to. I don't even like going to record stores with friends - they would likely want the same items I would. Feels too much like a competition.

The alcohol and hipsters in a closed confined space such as a bus doesn't bother me as much as the possible unshowered smellies.

Well look at it this way. They're pressing 2000 of each AC album. The release date for both albums is 7/21/2018. I counted eight cities with a "crawl" on or after that date. To sell out of those two albums, they'd need 250 people in each city, and every single one of them would have to buy both of the AC albums. In other words, there should be lots of remaining stock in record stores once it's all over in late October.

I'm just happy I went ahead and bought the mis-pressed versions when they were available.:)

Thankfully the NYC one (which takes place on Record Store Day) doesn't start until noon. I'll be home spinning my new purchases by then.

75% focus on the vinyl, 25% focus on the booze and forget the rest.

Could get nasty, that's true. But hopefully the competition would be lesser if the drunks aren't able to focus on what they're looking for.

Sounds like you get a lot for the money, but at least for the event here in DC, most of the participating shops aren't really within "crawling" distance of one another. Are they renting a bus to shuttle people around?

    Horrible joke of the day....
What's the difference between the record buying bearded hipster and the distinguished older gentleman endlessly going through the record bins?

One of them has a record player.

Should be something like this, not a bus. With a record deck etc.

Thread headline is a criticism based on no experience. How about a less divisive re-titling? You know, neutral. It's OK to discuss pros and cons, but the headline does not invite differing opinions.

In My Day <tm geezers> we used to stalk the wild vinyl on foot several times a week.
This is more like doing chauffered drive-bys at a bunch of vinyl petting zoos.

I like Records - I like reissues of rare records and hard to find records - you’d be complaining if there wasn’t a day to celebrate (cash in) on Records. Theres no pleasing some people. So a bus full of people (at worst young people who have an interest in tangible media) pulls up and spends money at your local brick and mortar...

Finding records is supposed to be a personal journey, not a "kewl" social event. That's just my opinion.
When small things get co-opted into large events, so goes the lower prices and accessibility.

Basically, I'm also a hater and misanthrope. Leave me alone. :)

Besides, 99% of those people are just gonna take selfies and buy over-priced easy to find records. You can't buy good taste from a mobile record goofball tour.
