Yea...when I studied songwriting, I was told that "woke up this morning" was a lazy to begin a song.

Unless you're Jim Morrison.... "Well, I woke up this morning, I got myself a beer"

Or numerous blues masters (which is likely where Morrison got the opening lyrical motif), like Son House, Muddy Waters, and Robert Johnson:

Boy, that Ringo can sing man. Said nobody ever. (Great live though) :)

Yes, guys 100 years ago and 50 years ago also lazily noted in their songs that they, indeed, had woken up that morning (although, rarely - I'm guessing - in successive songs). That's how it became a tired, hacky cliché.

Frank woke up this morning on the wrong side of the bed.

:laugh::laugh: Stands to reason considering the dreck I tried to listen to before bed last night!

Yea....there's usually a handful of tracks that are good or okay, but there is maybe only two that a passable.

Does this one get a pass then because of all the yammering before the actual lyrics start? :shh:

Hendrix said it ... but only once (like the Daffy Duck self-immolation routine).

I actually don't care for Goodnight Vienna much at all, but I'm very happy that you agree Rama is that good.

"Goodnight Vienna" is a steaming pile of rubbish.. seriously it only has two decent songs and the rest are horrendous and anyone who thinks it's great should have their ears tested immediately :)
Most people still sight "Ringo" as his best but to me it hasn't aged very well at all. IMHO it's only a half decent album. My fave Ringo album of the 70's is actually "Rotogravure"..lots of good songs on there. After that it's "Time Takes Time"; "Vertical Man" and "Ringo Rama" with the latter two tying for my favest Ringo albums. After those two it was all downhill with "Postcards..." being utter dreck. His latest is a step up from that.."Middling dreck" :)

I always thought "Rotogravure" was underrated. When released in 1976 I believe it sold OK. But did it actually go Gold, making it Ringo's last LP to do so?

I bought Rotogravure as a cut out 8 track at a time I was "discovering" Beatle solo LPs, and I really enjoyed it. Still in my top 5 for Ringo-maybe 2nd.
