Ringo is the only ex Beatle that did lots of work with the other three ex fabs. Both receiving & giving, playing drums for them & getting songs, vocals, playing from the other three !

What are your favorites of solo Beatles involving Ring O

John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band is my favorite Ringo performance of the solo Beatle era.

John Lennon - I Found Out

Always got a buzz whenever I knew Ringo had been given sticks duties on a new track or album by the other three. (Still do!)

Unfortunately, like so many other drummers post 1980, Ringo's musical personality was often somewhat vacuumed from his more recent performances with Paul and George. Whereas once upon a time you could immediately recognise the musical personalities of a Ringo, Moonie, Charlie Watts, Mitch Mitchell et al, most drum performances on pop songs since the 80's kinda sound the same. Producers will often discourage drummers from playing 'fills' in order to keep the track simple and thus be able to keep the drums fashionably loud in the mix. The performance will then be quantised and beat corrected, and sometimes their complete drum sounds replaced by samples. Hence, so many modern pop records sound like they have the same drummer. (Ok, rant over and back to the music!)

For me, glimpses of the 'real Ringo' shine through occasionally on material like Beautiful Night, When We Was Fab and the Threetles reunions, but we mostly have to look to those early 70's sessions with John to hear the full personality of Ringo's playing.

Perhaps this is my favourite, with some brilliantly unique Ringo drum fills before each chorus.

Wanderlust 84 is good, kind of Beatley.

There's so many nice tracks to choose from.

So we're talking about songs the other Beatles gave him too?

I love I'm the Greatest, Sunshine Life for Me and Six O'Clock. The three of them wrote very Ringo songs for him and they suit him to a tee.

I'm sure someone has already, but it'd be cool to see a compiled list of songs Ringo played on (for other artists too).

When John decided to go for the minimalist style of POB he knew he had the perfect drummer for it in Ringo. They have a great connection on that album. Voorman too.

George brought the very best out of Ringo, and let him shine.

I don't know if the other three tried to make them Beatley or if it just happened with 2-3 of them on every track, & Mal Evans around too, & Richard Perry assuming a type of surrogate George Martin thing behind the glass.

The Ringo LP really does offer a glimpse at what an Abbey Roadish 73 album might've been like

For more recent songs, George's guitar on King of Broken Hearts & Paul's vocals on Walk With You are highlights.

  23. Just as an aside, what did the other three think of Ringo's country album? I know that at least George was a fan of C&W. Is this the album that John is alluding to in his Rolling Stone interview as being an embarrassment for him (I don't remember his exact words)? Or was he referring to Sentimental Journey instead?

Lennon said that Beaucoups of Blues was a good album, and not embarrassing like Ringo's first album (Sentimental Journey). I don't know if Paul or George ever commented on either.
