RIP Barbara Alston (The Crystals)

Reported in today’s Charlotte Observer that Barbara Alston, former lead singer of The Crystals, passed away on Feb 16 in Charlotte:

The lead singer of influential ‘60s girl group lived in Charlotte. She just died of the flu.

That is one of Spector's best works, and one of my favorite songs of all time.

Damn, huge loss, great voice.

 

Not sure who Phil Spector shafted worse, The Crystals or Darlene Love. They were great on what was really them, though. Had no idea she was close by. RIP.

 

Ironically, in Charlotte, the heart of the city with all the banking and skyscrapers is called "Uptown"

...La La Brooks was lead singer on "Da doo run run " &. " Then he kissed me " ....

 

Small world for sure, it's frustrating to think you could've possibly interviewed Barbara if your paths had crossed. Although nothing I've seen has indicated as such, I'd be curious to know if Barbara ever did some special appearances as a performer after initially leaving the music business.

 

Fairly certain she has played some of the oldies package shows, I've seen some of those in Florida with other acts from the 50s and 60s. Not sure how they bill her, guess they could say La La Brooks formerly of The Crystals or something along those lines.
