Spinning " one dozen berrys " to honor the passing of one of the great Rock & Roll poets. Rock & Roll Music has lost a bit of it's Reelin' And Rockin' today...

I was just talking to an employee how amazing it was that several of the true rock and roll pioneers were still alive: Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry . . . Well, that list just got shorter.

As I get older, I've come to the conclusion that either Chuck Berry or Smokey Robinson was the greatest rock and roll songwriter. At the risk of sounding trite, Berry had genuine wit and wry intelligence.

And where would the ubiquitous 70s double live LP be without the Chuck Berry encore?

where are all the "waiting for confirmation" posts that usually pollute the first few pages of pretty much every RIP thread?

Very sad news. You can't overrate what this man has done for popular music of the 20th century.

RIP King of Rock and Roll.

Up in the morning and out to school
The teacher is teaching the Golden Rule
    American history and practical math
You studying hard and hoping to pass
Working your fingers right down to the bone
And the guy behind you won't leave you alone
    Ring, ring goes the bell
The cook in the lunch room's ready to sell
You're lucky if you can find a seat
You're fortunate if you have time to eat
Back in the classroom, open your books
Gee but the teacher don't know how mean she looks
Soon as three o'clock rolls around
You finally lay your burden down
Close up your books, get out of your seat
Down the halls and into the street
Up to the corner and around the bend
Right to the juke joint, you go in
Drop the coin right into the slot
You're got to hear something that's really hot
With the one you love, you're making romance
All day long you been wanting to dance
Feeling the music from head to toe
Round and round and round we go
    Hail, hail rock and roll
Deliver me from the days of old
    Long live rock and roll
The beat of the drums, loud and bold
    Rock, rock, rock and roll
The feeling is there, body and soul

RIP. Immense influence on rock, right up there with Elvis and Buddy. Probably played with more musicians than anyone. And what a character, how he must have driven Keith nuts!

    RIP.

If you're reading this and you don't at least have a Chuck compilation in your collection, then go get one!

He is survived by his cousin Marvin. :)

At the very least - he's had a long remarkable life. At most - he was one of those forces who changed the face of 20th century music remarkably. Rest in peace, Legend.

Without Chuck Berry the world could have been very, very different. That's quite the legacy.

What a ride! Yes, we knew this was coming, but that doesn't lessen the impact.
If I'm in any band playing anywhere in the world tonight, I'm playing some Chuck Berry. Take his music out of our history and everything that came after is different.

Thank you Chuck! Teach 'em how it's done.

In the Mount Rushmore of rock. Wish he had managed a better last act to his career though.
