Rest easy Gregg, you music was very much a part of the soundtrack of my life. Hope you're catching up with Duane and the boys, while the rest of us down here stay tied to the whippin' post...

Thinking about Gregg's passing further tonight I think part of the hit is the realization that The Allman Brothers Band are truly over, it's done. The loss of a life is the largest thing but the loss of the art is also great.

Of all the great Gregg Allman songs I'm listening to tonight, one always gets me -- "Win, Lose or Draw."

The title cut from the last album before they broke up (for the first time), the band reportedly considered it an embarrassment.

I think it's a low-key classic with some of Gregg's most heartfelt lyrics sung from the perspective of a lonely jail cell:

    Ma, she's dead and gone
Pa just don't seem to find the time
It makes me so sad that he's forsaken me
    He's all I have left

    And:

But each time I think of your soft hand in mine
I lay here and die one more time

RIP to both (Duane died in early 70s).Ironically, the creator of the main songs (Jessica, and of course Ramblin Man and so many others) was not either of them but Dickey Betts, subject of a recent topic and I beleive still alive. RIP to Gregg A.

I have been away from the computer and media reports for two days so I am just getting the sad news of Gregg passing on. Gregg always used music as a form of healing. I can think of nothing better than listening to his music now. RIP Gregg.
