He was great in the film Cool Hand Luke, I think there's only two cast members still living, Morgan Woodward and Joe Don Baker.

One of the great character actors. There are tons of films I enjoyed his work in, even though my mind tends to automatically think of him as Brett from Alien.

    RIP :(

RIP. No one like him - love him particularly in WILD AT HEART. Just like the great singers, you believe what you are experiencing when he is there.

Nicholson also did this on "Drive, He Said" and "The King of Marvin Gardens."

I liked his cameo in Avengers. I think I saw him in something more recently but can't remember what.

I haven't seen much mention of Lynch's "The Straight Story" among all of the other worthy remembrances here and elsewhere, but that final scene with his somehow knowing cry of "Alvin?" is a legitimate lump in the throat moment from these quarters. RIP, Mr. Stanton.

Sad news though not unexpected seeing how he looked on Twin Peaks The Return. So soon after Sam Shepard too. Paris, Texas is one of my favorite films of all time.

Saw Lucky last night in the theatre and it was excellent. So glad he had the chance to show off his talent one last time in a featured role.

Finally, an action figure of Harry Dean Stanton as Brett from "Alien" is being released later this year to tie in with the film's 40th anniversary.

Add me to the list who have seen Lucky. The scene with Tom Skerritt was cool. Enjoyed the mariachi birthday part a lot too!

I was lucky enough to see his band, Harry Dean Stanton & The Cheap Dates, featuring Slim Jim Phantom and Jeff Baxter (on pedal steel, not 6-string electric) in San Francisco.
