Jimi Jamison -- who was the lead singer for the bands Cobra and Survivor -- passed away Sunday night. He was 63.

Jamison's booking agent, Sally Irwin, tells TMZ that Jamison died of a heart attack. He had just performed with the band Saturday night in Northern California.

Jamison joined Survivor in 1984 (after their smash hit "Eye of the Tiger") but was the lead singer on other classic songs like, "The Moment of Truth" (from "The Karate Kid"), "The Search Is Over," and "Is This Love."

Jamison did sing a later Rocky classic -- the workout playlist staple ... "Burning Heart" from "Rocky IV."

R.I.P. He had a hell of a voice...

He almost became the lead singer for Deep Purple in 1990... He would have been a much better oƱption than Joelene Turner, but Blackmore insisted on Turner and Jimi's chance went away...

I'm gonna pull out my Survivor CDs and play them... Too Hot To Sleep is awesome...

I posted this in the other Survivor thread so I'll post it here also-

That is so weird. I was just literally thinking about Survivor and looking up some of their videos on YouTube and I just read that he died. I can't believe it. Survivor put out some pretty great melodic rock in the 80's. RIP Jimi.

This one hits hard. I've been a longtime fan and it was great to see him make some great new music after the Survivor-Reach debacle

After hearing this terrible news this evening I finished my listening with his 1991 solo album "When Love Comes Down". Produced by Shel Talmy its very good AOR record. Having the Survivor remasters from the UK "Rock Candy" label they will be on my play list this weekend.

I was obsessed with the eye of the tiger song and my mother purchased the 7" single for me in 83. Essentially it was the first 7" single I ever owned.

Jamison joined the band after that song was released.

I don't think there's a single clunker on Vital Signs. One of my favorite albums.

Yea, really sucks. I am such a big Survivor fan, so it hits me hard. Such an amazing voice. Many great tunes from the Survivor catalog and his solo work as well. RIP Jimi.

Yeah, the Jamison era did produce other movie soundtrack hits in the '80s that are still etched in my mind.

Wow, sad. I was always blown away by how powerful and emotive his voice was on songs like "The Search Is Over" and "I Can't Hold Back". A great singer like Jamison is able to make corny lyrics not seem corny.

Was shocked by the news this morning. I've been following his career ever since he joined Survivor. I think his powerful voice turned Survivor into a much better band. One of the finest singers to emerge from the 80s AOR era. Several Survivor albums are bona fide rock classics in my book - Vital signs, When seconds count, Too hot to sleep and even the 'Jimi Jamison's Survivor' album.

    R.I.P. Jimi Jamison
