Judge Wapner has passed at the age of 97.

I really wish some TV channel would air those old People's Court episodes because they were really good.

I used to love watching The People's Court when I was a kid (yes, I was a weird kid).

 

Ah, crap. Looks like we both were posting at the same time. Sorry about that.

 

Sad news. He was a classic. I watched him all the time. RIP, Judge.

 

97, where does the time go.

Last year he took the bench on the Peoples Court one last time as Judge Milian handed him her gavel.

Was waiting for Rusty to announce the news!

RIP Judge. wow 97, had no idea.

 

Sadly, Rusty went to that great courthouse in the sky back in 2002.

Remembering how Rain Man liked to watch Judge Wapner.

Judge Wapner is a legend and he'll be missed.

 

I enjoyed watching The People's Court as a kid. I thought he was in his 80's back then. Does anyone remember The Peoples Court board game?

 

Don't tell Raymond Babbitt.

His original face, however, is a different story.

 

Wow, what a ride. And he seemed in relatively good shape, too. RIP, good sir.

Speaking of rides, sort of: didn't he date some well-known Hollywood starlet back in his law school days?

I was also a big fan of The People's Court back in the Wapner days (my teens). I haven't been able to catch as much of the current incarnation with Judge Milian as I did a few years ago, but I like the fact that the show still holds to a relatively honest representation of small claims court and doesn't indulge the kind of nonsense that the various imitators over the years have relied on to sensationalize the experience. I learned a heck of a lot from the show over the years about basic statutes and smart choices regarding loans, pets, used cars, roommates, and basic contracts. These kinds of things have been the bread and butter of People's Court and I consider myself a better person for having watched the show.

 

You weren't the only weird kid. I used to stay up past my bedtime watching The People's Court on a little portable B&W TV. I was probably 9 or 10 at the time the show made it's debut.

 

The theme song and the voiceovers are embedded in my brain ("What you are witnessing is real. The participants are NOT actors...")

 

It's one of my most favorite TV theme songs.
