I listen to countless comedy podcasts, so I have heard no less than a million Mitzi stories. Quite a love/hate thing. She did a lot for the sport. Quite a history. It was my understanding that The Comedy Store has been operating as if Mitzi was out of the picture, due to her health. Sounds like the family and associates have been managing it well.
Many old Mitzi/Comedy Store stories have been told on Marc Maron's WTF podcast, and Joe Rogan's podcast. Those two guys played The Store and had some history there. Maron in particular, he was a doorman in the 80's during the Sam Kinison era. For podcasts, too many to name...Bill Burr, Doug Stanhope, Theo Von, Greg Fitzsimmons, Pete Holmes, Jay Mohr, Tom Rhodes, Dean Delray.
I read a couple of great articles about Mitzi and the Comedy Store today: 2008 article in Time, about the 1979 Comic Store walkout over pay 2015 article at Buzzfeed about the notorious Cresthill house, where many comics lived and partied Both articles are well worth your time.
RIP and condolences to Paully Shore. I didn't know she started The Comedy Store. I thought it had been there for years and she was the current owner. She opened it in 1972. That would have been a rockin' place back then and forward. I'm glad she was not in pain when she died.
