Robin Leach, the entertainment journalist and host whose syndicated TV series Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous hit smack-dab in the zeitgeist of the “greed is good” era during its heyday in the 1980s and early 90s, has died. He was 76.

He most recently had been working as a columnist at the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The newspaper relayed the news this morning that Leach passed away overnight in Las Vegas. He had been hospitalized since November 21 after suffering a stroke. He had a second stroke Monday and had been in hospice care.

Amazing how many people in entertainment end up in Vegas.

Wow, he was only 76 years old.

When he was hosting "Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous", he was in his early 40s but looked like he was at least 60.

He would've been 77 in a few days.

Leach is being enbalmed with an exclusively-prepared solution of hand-decanted grain alcohol and rose water; his hand-rubbed, micro-sanded tiki-wood cabinet is adorned with original Louis XVIIII palace dumb-waiter cabinet door hinges, and 800-thread-count silk lining imported from Yugoslvian millers, the choice of the finest undertakers worldwide...

Oh come on, somebody had to say it, right? (in the vernacular, "I don't know whyyy...")

I had the same thought. When I saw the news of his passing, I automatically assumed he was in his 90s by now.

I remember seeing him first on "Entertainment Tonight" & thought he was very entertaining in a "Hollywood" kind of way (which was great). He continued that style on his "Lifestyles Of The Rich & Famous" show. I watched every show. Thank you Robin for the great entertainment. RIP.

Only 76, that blows me away. I had no idea he was only in his 40s back in his "Lifestyles" heyday. I was literally thinking about him just a few days ago...I don't know WHYYYY!!

I worked a few desks away from him in the early 80's at the Midnight Globe (now just The Globe) supermarket tabloid in their NY office. Later in the decade when he became a television personality, I didn't even recognize him. In person he was so quiet and low key. Very unlike his public persona.

So the voice of extreme “R”ism and financial excess died.

    Hard to feel any remorse.

Met Mr. Leach at a taping of one his specials which featured Davy Jones as a guest. He was a very nice gentleman.

Although the general format of Lifestyles of The Rich and Famous has been copied by every cable company in later decades, Robin's character and personality is what made his show a classic and he really had a genuine feel for this kind of show. He will be missed and is a true legend. RIP.

When my late German shepherd, Sheba, was still alive, I used to imitate Leach's voice and call her "The Alsatian Sensation".
