For the past year or so his absences from TCM increased in number and length and I noticed his voice sounded much weaker than usual. Very enjoyable host who didn't talk down to his audience or provide for the lowest common denominator. He will be missed. RIP.

Sad news to hear! I heartily echo the above comments regarding Robert Osborne (definitely a class act!), and am pleased to see that TCM will be airing a 48-hour tribute to the man next weekend (Saturday, March 18th and Sunday, March 19th), which will include various interview segments from "Private Screenings" and "Live from the TCM Classic Film Festival":

He is indeed missed. RIP.

I strongly recommend the Kim Novak segment for anyone who missed it. It is harrowing.
She had/has so many mental problems, it's a wonder she's still around. many people with those kinds of issues don't survive.
    She is pretty damn strong.

And Mr. O treats her with respect, as usual.

Turner Classic Movies host Robert Osborne died on March 6 at age 84. Osborne never revealed much about his private life, but his partner, David Staller, came forward in the Los Angeles Times’ obituary.

Osborne’s family said in his obituary that he died after a long battle with kidney disease.

TCM announced that it is hosting a 48-hour tribute to Osborne between Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, March 19. The network will air interviews Osborne conducted with stars, as well as his first-ever introduction on TCM, which was for Gone With The Wind.

Staller is a New York theater director and producer with a love of George Bernard Shaw’s works that mirrored Osborne’s love of classic movies.

Here’s a look at Staller’s life and career.

Just watched the interview he did with Liza Minnelli, just incredible. Never was particularly a fan of hers before. Always "read" her being just a child of Hollywood drama and everything, but that interview brought out so much that you'll never get from just her performance work. There was no shying away from any delicate subjects in her & her parents life either. They didn't take questions all the way to the end of the drive of course, but what was said was open and said so much without ending up in the ditches of memory & emotion.

A phenomenal guy by all accounts.

I met him just once about 10 years ago and had to gush, I told him that he and TCM helped me though hard times and watching him made him feel like a smarter older brother.

He thanked me for my kind words, what a mind-blower!

    -

I'm watching his cousin, nieces and friends roast him on TCM (from 2014) right now, and I am in tears right now. Even profoundly embarrassed he's showing such grace.
