Yeah, I think he's most proud of his JJ film( interviewed on CNN a few years back ). Though he aged graceful and kept his aura. Something Warren Beatty didn't manage to achieve.

Really is a Robert Redford film, Paul Newman's hardly in it.

Why does an actor feel the need to "announce" their retirement? It's not like they work all the time anyway. It's not like, if the right offer came across their desk they wouldn't necessarily consider it (Redford has left the door open in that respect by saying as much).

Interviewer: will you come out of retirement for a good script, worthwhile film ?

I haven't but my guess like anywhere else when something is in town they quadruple their rate

Robert Redford is truly a craftsman of his trade

81, he deserves to retire and enjoy his remaining years on this planet

The first movie I seen him in is still my favorite

    "The Sting"

I pretty much loved the rest of them though

I watched this recently after 40( looks a wee bit like a TV movie now) years and RR dominates all the scenes.

Maybe so they won't be included in any of those clickbait "find out why Robert Redford isn't hired anymore" articles? :wiggle:

If you get a chance search out his very first film called War Hunt, with John Saxon and Sydney Lumet (as an actor.) The production values are minimal at best, but it's an excellent psychological film about men at war.

One film thats rarely mentioned that I love, "The Hot Rock". Double feature with "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" at the Brentwood Theatre, Brentwood NY July 1972.
All the great character actors from Charlotte Rae, Paul Sands, Ron Liebman, and semi-leading man George Segal and the great Zero Mostel. Also Christopher Guest and many other cameos, a real NYC production. John M.

Was that the one where a character faked throwing another character down an elevator shaft?

RR- The Great Gatsby looked great on the big screen in the seventies, Patsy ( I'm not Scared ) Kensit was in it.Bruce Dern was excellent.

Saying that I prefer Alan Ladd's 1949 version.

  25. Within the profession of acting I do not understand the need to voice "retirement".
There are numerous opportunities for actors that span the full life of a person.
"Retirement" for an actor, such as Robert Redford, seems as simple as not bothering with any opportunities that do not appeal to him.
To formally announce "retirement" seems like grandstanding to me.

He has made some very good things in his career.
