81 years old, 78 acting credits on IMDb. That's when you retire, Daniel Day-Lewis!

He was pretty good in that Netflix is life after death scientist role. Once that strong physicality is gone there’s not a lot left for most actors. I just watch that Ian McClellan movie where he plays senior Sherlock homes, boy was that depressing.

I think he would’ve been too old for the graduate and two vanilla for Rosemary’s but that would’ve been interesting casting I wonder how well Roman Polanski could’ve directed him.

His physical stunts in BC&TSK were actually very good.

I do believe he stole the film from Paul Newman.

If the right role comes along I would hope Redford would consider it as I would watch it, same for DDL and Gene Hackman.

I wouldn't go that far, but Newman probably saw the possibility, which may've been his real concern when scolding him for doing the stunts.

I am not sure Three Days of the Condor is my favorite film of his. But he does a great job in it, and I love the chemistry with Faye Dunaway.

his batting average 1969-1979 is pretty amazing, helps that he worked with great directors several times. I always thought he was interesting and kind of had an introverted acting style which worked

I wonder if there was ever a Jeremiah Johnson sequel script written?

That could have made a great movie to go out on. Quite a few possibilities there. Or a cameo in a movie with Redford playing some cranky old mountain man! "Is that supposed to be..???":hide:

I'll always have a soft spot for Jeremiah Johnson (my father took me to see it for my 11th birthday), but I also especially like him in "Little Fauss and Big Halsy", and "3 Days of the Condor".

  19. Last movie I saw with him in it was A Walk In the Woods and I'm surprised him and Nick Nolte survived till the end credits.

You'd probably like Downhill Racer too. To his credit, he was willing to play a self-absorbed knob. Which is one reason the film works.

He probably ended up like that Frozen Guy whose rifle he took. I always think of Frozen Guy when some critic mentions an actor who doesn't display a lot of range or nuance. I think "You've haven't seen Frozen Guy". I hope he's in the Sequel. Maybe JJ could freeze right across the road from him. Then in a flashforward coda 150 years into the future they're discovered by a young film student who produces a documentary on them that wins at Sundance Film Festival.

Of course it could be many reasons. Some have suggested to reduce the onslaught of offers as he wants to slow down. But I've noticed that actors do this when they physically or mentally can't do the job any more. At 81, it's possible that he has a health problem. Perhaps arthritis, or the beginnings of Alzheimer's etc.

Since Sean Connery announced his retirement, I believe he has not been heard from again.
