The Cure will prob. not make it this year due to competition.
    They’ll nominate them again.

Bold ones are who I'd vote in. Roxy Music mostly only because it might be the only way Eno ever gets acknowledgement. LL is fine, but there are so many other hip-hop pioneers that deserve the nod ahead of him.

    What a subpar list.

I would agree-I think the Monkees make for a great Hollywood Pinocchio story...but I think in the eyes of the panel-they are disqualified because they only formed to be a TV show and in the mind of whoever...nothing else matters.

As a fan of their music (singles, albums, even live acts 1967-2018), including all of the musicians and songwriters that formulated them-they are far superior to many acts already in.

When people say they are unimpressed with a list of nominees, it would be helpful for debate's sake to actually suggest who they would like to see instead.

I don't disagree necessarily, but can we please let this go? They've been inducting rappers, disco artists and R&B singers for a long time now. There's plenty of other discussion to be held without this recycled outrage every single year. I don't intend to pick on you solely, mind, just seems so unproductive at this point. For better or worse, they've just decided to expand the scope beyond what the name implies.

Surprised at the lack of people in this thread thinking John Prine should be in. He's one of the most deserving on this list imho.

I mean I don't even see how this is difficult. The HOF event is a big show, and you know with it being on HBO they want a wide audience. With the influx of 90's legendary bands hitting eligibility, this could EASILY be the formula for the next few years and make almost everyone happy:

1- 90's icon band (Radiohead, SP, Soundgarden)

2- 80's influential college rock legends (Cure, Smiths, Pixies, etc)

3- Overlooked classic rock artist that has repeatedly missed the cut (Rundgren, The Cars, Zombies)

4- Pioneering hip hop artist - because they are hellbent on doing this and I don't really have a problem, just that hip hop needs its own HOF to properly give credit- (LL, Snoop, wu Tang)

    5- Legacy innovator/songwriter artist

I think that would check all of the boxes, creating an annual exciting lineup of retrospectives and performances, and over a few years get in the bulk of artists that deserve the respect while keeping it relevant.

Honestly, the only way I see Supertramp getting in, is if they buy tickets...and I say that as a fan.

Interesting to see which Cure members would be inducted. Using previous logic, I'd guess the "Disintegration" lineup (including Lol Tolhurst) and first bassist Michael Dempsey.

    True that.
Of course there are acts I would have preferred to see..
But the list in general makes sense and I can see why these nominees are on it.

One of these days he has to be nominated
    And inducted.

Roxy is considered “art rock”. I’m not sure what tag has been applied to Radiohead these days. They were lumped under the Brit Pop banner at one point.

He's never played on classic rock radio, so most of this lot have never heard of him.

    Definitely.
They’ll put him in as musical excellence.
Fan voting, etc. won’t matter in this case,

Nothing is played on classic radio aside from, let’s say, 75 songs in rotation.
    Radio is dead.
That’s why Spotify, Sirius. Pandora , etc. exists.
