Well, it has to start off with the Mt. Rushmore of Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and Little Richard, followed by Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis and Marvin Gaye. Personally, I would have Gene Vincent or Sam Cooke over Marvin Gaye, but Marvin is too iconic and important not be a first ballot hall of fame inductee -- however, Eddie Cochran is also first ballot, and if he is on the next list, he is going in before Marvin. Narrowing this down to seven is very difficult.

Chuck, Bill Haley, Buddy, Ray, Little Richard, Jerry Lee, and Elvis. Six rockers plus one (Ray Charles) who was an important precursor.

It's always irked me that it's called the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame when half of the inducted artists aren't even rock, let alone rock 'n' roll. Guess it has a better ring than "Popular Music Hall of Fame."

This is what makes the whole hall a complete joke to me. It never ceases to amaze me how people continue to care about who that clique decides to induct.

Did Marvin Gaye do rock'n'roll at some point in his life? I didn't know that.

If this is about all kinds of music, let's induct Beethoven, Stephen Foster and Edith Piaf.

A lot of his early stuff, like "Hitch Hike" and "Can I Get A Witness" is pretty rock and roll. But seriously, you're equating his style with Stephen Foster?

Which group members go in when Chuck Berry wins.
& when are Chucks primary influences in Charlie Christian & T-Bone Walker going to get nominated. Not to mention his mentor Muddy Waters.

They will be up as early influences

As far as Chuck’s band, I do intend to nominate Johnnie for the Sideman Category at least.

You need to go much deeper than that. Chuck Berry was a Chess artist and his recordings feature some of the greatest blues musicians to grace the planet.
    Johnnie Johnson
    Otis Spann
    Lafayette Leake
    Willie Dixon
    Fred Below
    Odie Payne
    Jimmy Rogers
    Hubert Sumlin

The greatest rock & roll ever & it's played by mostly blues guys.

How are you determining who's nominated each year?

Those are some worthy names indeed, and I’m glad you brought them up.

Well I go by 25 yrs after the first record. However, I’m open to voters suggesting nominations, make it more democratic.

I think he's saying 1986 was the year the R&RHoF opened nominations.

Lots of greats on here, but for me, dog, for me, it's Elvis, Chuck, Jerry Lee (think about it), Little Richard, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, and Buddy Holly.

And I say this with SERIOUS respect for Smokey.

I think Smokey would understand, besides, he and the Miracles have until 2001 to make the cut.

Well you know the Blues got pregnant

I'd put Smokey in the very next year, probably.
