What is the objective of the poll - to vote for your ten favorites of this indicted that year?

A lot of artists trying to get in based on the strength of ONE song: Rock Around the Clock, The Twist, Rumble... unlike last year where there were some absolute giants with long careers.

    In order:

    Fats Domino
    Carl Perkins
    Bo Diddley
    The Everly Brothers
    Roy Orbison
    Smokey Robinson And The Miracles
Muddy Waters (Blues gave birth to Rock and Roll and along with Howlin' Wolf, Muddy was a big part of that.)
Link Wray (Rumble is as Rock and Roll as any other one song you could name, plus Jack the Ripper and Black Widow are great songs too.)
    Johnny Cash

    (gap)

Bill Haley and His Comets (This is almost begrudgingly. Planned to give that vote to the Drifters or Dion... but when Rock Around the Clock is so often called the birth of Rock and Roll - well, it isn't really, but...it is significant.)

  11. This whole class should NOT have had to be voted in, they were part of the defacto foundation. Gene Vincent wasn't voted in until '97, and the Blue Caps not till 2012. Pathetic.

Eddie, Bo, Marvin, Gene, Muddy, Link. That's the only 6 that interest me, at all.

The ol' defacto foundation was exactly why my friends and I KNEW this was a pathetic idea from the start. After the first few years, then what?
We ALL know rock and roll branched off in many different directions. So.....trouble ahead ding ding ding!

    Dick Dale
    Miles Davis
    Bo Diddley
    Fats Domino

    Ike and Tina Turner

    Smokey Robinson And The Miracles
    Muddy Waters

Even the few cuts I made were difficult..

  15. As Rock N Roll was and is a hybrid style (just like the US), everybody should get in, it tells the full story, unfortunately, lack of knowledge, pettiness and a small vision have ruled the day. But hey, the Grammys were always irrelevant, so why shouldn't the Hall be?

Right, there is no one sound or style that is Rock, and there has almost never been. Would you say The Who and The Beatles sound the same? Or Yes vs The Clash? Or even Van Halen vs Nirvana? And yet, all fall under the category of rock.

And let me say, it was HARD to leave The Drifters and Clyde McPhatter off this particular list. Clyde was SUCH a good singer - Elvis loved his voice.

And the Ike and Tina thing is a combination that includes Ike's important early work such as "Rocket 88", the real birth of Rock and Roll in some of our eyes and hearts, and includes the hits he had with Tina. That makes it hard to leave Ike off this year, but again so many worthy candidates.
