OK, those who will Rod-bash at every opportunity have a fieldday with how Rod articulates what he deems to be a prolific songwriting phase that he is currently in - but good news for those who liked Time.

    What is known:
    Kevin Savigar again heavily involved
    Marc Jordan doing some lyrics
    Ten songs done.
Features Celtic melodies and possibly some reggae and even ska ?!?!

Good news. I hadn't expected anything new (or unreleased, for that matter) from Rod so soon. Kevin Savigar, Marc Jordan, Celtic melodies ... sounds promising. Here's hoping that this time around, there will be more acoustic drumkits and less programmed beats. I mean it's not like he's making dance music anyway. "Time" was a nice follow-up to "Human", and a better album as such.

Unfortunately there is an immediate clash here: Kevin Savigar = more programming.
Time, taking all 18 tracks that were relesased, really has two approaches merged.
Where Chuck Kentis and the band were involved it was real instruments for the most part and, IMO, a warmer sound.
KS used a lot of programming.
He's a great ally for Rod, particularly on songwriting - but the production and programming are a bit too Rod-lite for me.

Savigar has been around in Rod's camp since "Vagabond Heart". "Time" was the first album since Rod's disco period which had programmed beats that sounded like cardboard boxes instead of drums. Even "Human"'s r'n'b drum programming didn't sound like cardboard boxes. Also, Savigar has done some nice co-writing and production on a Peter Frampton solo album from the early 90s. From all of this, I wouldn't assume the already dated-sounding beats on "Time" were his artistic input.

I'm a relatively new fan of Rod's. I'm 41 and have been familiar with him and liked a few tunes like "Infatuation" and "People Get Ready".

Got into Faces about 10 years ago and got the Storyteller box as well. I was pleasantly surprised. I really like the guy. Very talented.

I liked the last album. I'll get this one too.

At least he's moved on from the "great American songbook"!!

I use to think that Rod Stewart was the bomb. Nowadays, his music is a non-event for me. I really liked him during the Jeff Beck to the early Faces eras. After that, forget it.

I'd like to see him take his banjo and acoustic guitar out of the mothballs and make a straight folk album.

Those waiting for that, along with a "blues" album (with or without Jeff Beck), will be waiting for a long time.

I was just glad to hear that he was writing his own material again. I must listen to 'Time' again, borrowed it from the library. It was MOR, but that was expected. Bring back Ron Wood, I say.

Rod is still a very good singer and entertainer. When it comes to making truly great albums we have-imo -to go back to the first half of the seventies. But the albums he made during that era are among the best from anyone

From memory, he has been around since 1978 (tour), stayed until 1986 and returned in the studio for the Vagabond Heart sessions. Since then he has appeared on ASITW, Time and maybe some others.

What I meant was a cover album of country songs like the Great American songbook series.

The last one was mediocre, maybe he'll have shaken the rust off by this next one.

Yikes...a cover album of country standards? I typically defend Rod to some degree; I don't have a problem with a guy making a living, even if the music doesn't resonate with me. And while I have no interest in his covers projects, or his present-day standard of making a paycheck, this seems like such a waste of talent. If he is going to focus on a theme or genre, why not do something folk or blues related that goes back to his late-60's roots?

He only left the touring band in 1986 after getting cancer. He featured prominently on Out of Order in 1988. Also co-produced and played on When we were the new boys.
Essentially ever-present in the studio bar Human+ J records era.

    It is.

Nothing confirmed in terms of the songs that will make the album but Cregan did talk about them planning to write again sometime last year.

For what it's worth, the following may be titles to be featured:
    Another country
Every rock n roll song to me
    Hold the line
    Please
    Love and be loved
Stay with me tonite (or Can we stay home tonite)
    We can win
    Way back home
    Love is
    The drinking song
    Batman superman spiderman
