Agree re "Wanderlust," and I generally would have expected another song or two from Tug of War to be on a list like this. Particularly a list by RS, which gave Tug a gushing 5-star review. Only "Here Today" made the list -- as well it should have, and I might have moved it into the Top 10.

It's a list. I doubt there are any expectations of "trust".

Not bad, I guess, but "Sally G" should be there.

  5. Even as very much a non-solo McCartney afficionado, I have to say this is pretty wack. Not only no "My Love" or "Let 'Em In", but zippo from Flowers In the Dirt??? I'd put "My Brave Face" easily in his top five ever, with "Figure Of Eight" and "This One" also pretty high. Weird...

I'm with you. Forty-plus years later and I'm still not tired of hearing this song.

I agree with you but at least it gets mentioned in the introduction (which it appears sometimes doesn't get read):
"Our ranking of his 40 greatest solo songs is sure to start some arguments (his banned stoner-anthem rocker "Hi, Hi, Hi" makes the top 10 and his radio-dominating global smash "My Love" isn't here at all), ..."

I find lists like this impossible. I wouldn't even be able to decide on my favourite song let alone 40 of them.

But there are people who take lists made by magazines too serious.

If you read the introduction you can see even RS doesn't take it seriously.

I don't understand everyone's fascination with back seat of my car. It's my least favorite on Ram. Glad that monkberry made the list.

It's pure ear candy. It just sounds so good--great harmonies on the bridge, that killer bass. And it's sentiments are no more fluffy and trite than those expressed by Paul's "old, estranged fiance's" on "Imagine."

Yes to silly love songs, no to My Love. Agree on those two. I'm going to have to sit down and come up with my top 40 list. Will be hard to limit to 40

I like "Flaming Pie", but I think there are better songs on that album. I think "The Back Seat Of My Car" should be about 20 slots higher. And, "Jet" should be in the Top 5.

Calico Skies and Wanderlust are top 10 material for sure and should be there.

FourFive Seconds has no business being on this list. Paul McCartney's contribution to that song is pretty minimal. I can't even here him. And that's not a comment on the quality of the song (I think it is boring, but even if I loved it I wouldn't include it on a list of Paul's solo songs).
