    Hi all,

I wanted to start a discussion thread on the Rolling Stones B-sides and non-album tracks.

What's out there? What do you like or dislike?

Any fun stories or historical notes surrounding these extra tracks?

What's in your collection and what do you want?

    What's rare or approaching rareness?

Speculation on what will get reissued or what will forever be abandoned to time?

For me, I have a few of the Steel Wheels b-sides on 45 and the Voodoo Lounge b-sides on CD which I enjoy a great deal. I also am a big fan of the Stripped b-sides. Nothing valuable but certainly enjoyable.

Rarities 1971-2003 was a good step in the right direction and if I'm not mistaken created a couple rarities of it's own by putting some DVD only tracks on the CD.

Fond memories of spinning 45s in the 1960s with my best friend.

"Sad Day," "Who's Driving Your Plane" (mis-titled in the US as "My") and "Child of the Moon" always got plenty of turntable time.

I don't care much for the obscure mid-60s stuff, but I got the big 45x45s singles box to cover the stuff from Sticky Fingers onwards

Was “Everything Is Turning To Gold” a B-side? I love that one!

Ugh. I hate that disc. It was such a huge missed opportunity. They had the chance to make a definitive 'sequel' to The Singles Collection: The London Years and gather together all of the non-album tracks from the post London years for easy collecting. Instead it was a strange hodgepodge of stuff, missing tons and with Bill insultingly airbrushed off the cover! I made my own version. It contains:

    1. Let It Rock (B-side Brown Sugar)
    2. Through the Lonely Nights (B-side, It's Only Rock 'n Roll)
    3. Everything is Turning to Gold (B-Side, Shattered)
    4. Going to a Go-Go (Single, Still Life era)
    5. Twenty Flight Rock (Single, Still Life era)
    6. I Think I'm Going Mad (B-Side, She Was Hot)
    7. Fancy Man Blues (B-Side, Mixed Emotions)
    8. Cook Cook Blues (B-Side, Rock and a Hard Place)
    9. Wish I'd Never Met You (B-Side, Almost Hear You Sigh)
    10. The Storm (B-Side, Love is Strong)
    11. So Young (B-Side, Love is Strong)
    12. Jump on Top of Me (B-Side, You Got Me Rocking)
    13. I'm Gonna Drive (B-Side, Out of Tears)
    14. Anyway You Look at It (B-Side, Saint of Me)
    15. Fortune Teller (withdrawn single)*
    16. Poison Ivy v. 1 (withdrawn single)*
    17. Money (Rolling Stones EP)*
    18. Bye Bye Johnny (Rolling Stones EP)*
    19. Poison Ivy v. 2 (Rolling Stones EP) *

I've got these tacked on at the end because I didn't have them elsewhere in my collection. I never owned More Hot Rocks. Any other non-album tracks from post 1970 I have on the compilations they came out on (Forty Licks, Grrr, etc.)

If we're talking favorites, my top five favorite Stones non-album tracks would be Child of the Moon, Sad Day, Dandelion, Through the Lonely Nights, and Anyway You Look at It.

Way, way back in the day (1964??), I saw the London 45 with the "Stoned" B-side and didn't bother to pick up. Always wish I had! Anyway, my favorite B-side is "Through the Lonely Nights," a great song IMO.

Yep they wasted some good space releasing actual album tracks on there. Not even close to rare! Such a tease leaving some good things off.

There were two bonus tracks on the 'Bigger Bang' deluxe edition that weren't on the CD but on an accompanying Blu-Ray disc. So there's a video, just pictures of the band while the two tracks play. I don't remember the second one... but the first one entitled "Under the Radar" is one of my all time favorite Stones tunes, not just favorite b-side. It's inconceivable they left it off the original album. Great riff.

I have the three CD singles box sets...1963 - 1965, 1965 - 1967, 1968 - 1971 which of course have all of the b-sides and such from those years/singles/ep. Some cool picture sleeves along with other nice photos. It's the Stones, and I love those great years from them. And I have some cool vinyl releases that have some nice rarities as well. One of my particular favorites is "No Stone Unturned" as an example with an awesome picture of Brian Jones with the mini pitchfork in his hand.

@omikron yes indeed, nice idea for a thread!

I love the Keith vocal version of Soul Survivor! I love the final version with Mick too, but the song itself is so spiritually "Keith."

Not many b-sides of note really. But "Child of the Moon" is a nice track. And I like vibe on "We Love You" with John & Paul on harmonies.

Don't Wanna Go Home was the other Bigger Bang DVD track.

Not as good and glad it wasn't on the album but good bonus material.

I'm one of those Stones fans who feels they got it right the first time 95% of the time. There are only a few b-sides in the Stones catalogue that I feel are worthy of being included on the album proper, perhaps Child of the Moon, Through the Lonely Nights and Dandelion.

I don't get the love for Under the Radar from the Bigger Bang sessions. Sometimes I wonder if being an outtake increases the song's mystique. You get the, "Oh, they should have put that on the album!!" comments. While maybe true, if it were included, the mystique would be removed and the critics would then find a way to criticize said song and wonder why the "other" song wasn't on the album.

Just an observation from being here for 7 yrs...nothing more.

The first record I ever owned was the 45 of Satisfaction b/w The Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man (uncensored version). Naturally, this B-side got lots of play time because it was the only record I had!

I thought I'm Free was a decent B-side to Get Off Of My Cloud. In fact, it got lots of airplay in certain parts of the U.S.

They certainly have released some great b-sides over the years. Remember buying the USA import single Shattered in Kingston market (Surrey-England) and being amazed by “Everything’s turning to Gold”. Think Some Girls would have been even better if that song replaced “Lies”.

Another shout out for “Child of the Moon”, really good enough for an A side for a lot of bands. Same for “Dandelion” that’s A star in my book.

Then “Through the lonely nights” and “The Spider and the Fly” a simple Jimmy Reed template but very well performed and with very witty lyrics from Mick!

This part about always critiquing their choices is true, but nevertheless it's a fun song, catchy and with a great riff. Would be great as an album track too. I just want to own it on vinyl! Maybe it's a good time for another post-ABKCO B-sides & rarities anthology. Most of these have not been in print on vinyl for thirty years, if ever:

    Let It Rock (Live '71)
    Sway (B-side version)
All Down the Line (B-side version)
    Through the Lonely Nights
    Everything Is Turning to Gold
If I Was a Dancer (Dance Pt. 2)
    Beast of Burden (Live '81)
    I Think I'm Going Mad
    Fancy Man Blues
    Wish I'd Never Met You
    Cook Cook Blues
Undercover of the Night (Live '89)
    The Storm
    Jump on Top of Me
    I'm Gonna Drive
    Anyway You Look At It
I Just Wanna Make Love to You (Live '98)
    Keys to Your Love
    Stealing My Heart
    Losing My Touch
    Under the Radar
    We Don't Wanna Go Home
    One More Shot (Single Remix)

I never get a straight answer to this question :
What is being yelled by Jagger or Richards at the beginning of ' Child of The Moon'?
Boo to anyone who says it's : " Somebody wake Brian up."

Very true comment but I think in the case of Bigger Bang without doing a survey, many people would rather see something other than Neocon. Politics 100% aside, it's just a dopey track.
