I just listened to the 1st CD of this set, and so far this sounds like a much better show to me than the one on the DVD.
At the very least, Jagger's vocals are better. It sounds like he actually cared on this night.

Don't forget the LA Forum set features two different shows so that may factor into the cost as well.

I love both shows but if I had to give the edge to one it would be the CD. Just compare both versions of "Gimme Shelter" and you'll hear the CD was an extra special night...just a tidal wave of sound rushing over and engulfing you.

I've just starting spinning the 1975 CD and I'm up to `Gimme Shelter'.
    Tremendous.

If you think that's good you should hear the Brussels '73 show if you haven't already.

I've got several `copies' of Brussels...why wasn't it a part of this archival series? Because it had
    no Wood, perhaps?

I heard that mentioned on an episode on the TV show "Unsung", which focuses on the lives and careers of lesser known R&B hit makers . Apparently, Preston's gayness was an open secret in the business, but not known by the general public.

Yeah, I have Brussels. It's great. That vinyl would be sweet, but it's too much for me to afford. Taylor was so melodic in his playing. Ron Wood could never play like that.

Brussels is an absolute peak in the Stones Live archive. But the style of a guitar player has a lot to do with his personality. And Wood is a completely different character doing his own thing. Why should he try to imitate Taylor?
The funny thing is, that Wood is in the band for nearly 40 years now. And strangely for many he is still the "new one"....I guess the reason is less any weakness in his playing, I think many people define the Stones by their albums up to "Exile", everything they recorded after did no longer have the same impact as the singles from the 60s and the albums from Beggar to Exile. And Ron Wood wasn't part of that.

I think part of what makes Wood seem like the "new one" is that he always seems like a sideman. He is great in his own right, yet he pretty much only gets to shine on his solo albums. To be fair, I've felt for a while now that Taylor was not much more of a Stone than Billy Preston or Nicky Hopkins. Taylor came in around the time that the Stones expanded very much beyond the core musicians, and I think all the sidemen had a very important impact on that classic run of music that was produced.

Ronnie Wood's defining moments are mostly found in his solo career and with the Faces.

I agree, and I never expect Ron Wood to be a Mick Taylor. The Stones have done great things since Taylor was in the band, but it was never the same (imo).
Actually, I think Ron Wood's solo album "Gimme Some Neck" is better than any Stones album he was part of.

I've Gone My Own Album To Do might as well have been a Stones album (well, most of it.)

I don't know , but I think" Some Girls " is an awesome Stones album. " Tattoo You" ranks up there as well.

More than half of the set list from the Hampton show (13 songs) comprised of material from Some Girls, Emotional Rescue and Tattoo You...and it rocked! I think that says something about the quality of the material from those three records.
