You heard wrong. The original UK pressing used the true mono mix and the re-pressing used the folddown (or maybe it was the other around, I can't remember).
Post a sample please. I'd love to hear it. I have a handful of copies with differing matrices and they all sound about the same - with individual songs ranging from mediocre at best to downright awful. All of the Side 1's are better than the Side 2's. But neither is good.
The UK true mono has ARL8126-1P in the deadwax on side one and ARL8127-1P or P1 In the deadwax on side two. Mine is one with P1 on side two.
By that logic, then why is the US 'Aftermath' included? They could have put 'Paint It, Black' on Stray Cats.
Good question. Or Between The Buttons. The best I can figure is that Aftermath is included because the art is substantially different.
If that's the only reason, then I really hope Bob Ludwig had the good judgement to use the dedicated mono mix of "Paint It Black" in place of the fold down .
I think it is because the U.S. Aftermath is a different mono mix, being a fold. Please note I'm not suggesting this is a good reason- I just think that's what's happening.
Always go with your gut. I originally was going to write: "If that's the only reason, then I really hope the people at ABKCO had the good judgment to use the dedicated mono mix of "Paint It Black" in place of the fold down." Don't know why I changed it.
Substantially different track order make Aftermath & BTB worthy of specific release of both versions. The first album running order nearly identical & redundant, save dropping in or out Not Fade Away and/or Mona
Has it been confirmed that fold downs will be used for this set if the original mono releases were fold downs? Is it not possible that a new mono mix might be created for this set instead of using the stereo folded down?
I am looking forward to this for the digitally unreleased dedicated mixes, but find it unfortunate that such language is being used to tout a set comprising so many fold-downs, without distinction between the two.
